Hrmm, strange. What operating system are you using just out of curiosity? One thing you might want to try, is to right click the game and select "Run as Administrator" if you are using Vista or Windows 7 (that is, assuming you do have administrator privelages on that computer).
Im running " Windows Vista" Basic and im using an Acer Aspire One Laptop
Also Ran as administrator and turned my firewall and Virus protector off. Still got the same error.
Which version of DirectX are you currently running on the system? Try running the game in compatibility mode with Windows by right clicking the .exe and clicking the compatibility tab and setting it to a Windows XP Service Pack.

Sometimes I get that error when testing my games while watching YouTube and playing Minecraft all at once. This could be because you don't have enough memory. I don't mean hard drive space, I mean the physical memory. Could you tell me how much memory you have? You can do this by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del, opening Task Manager, and clicking the Performance tab.
I'm not sure how Vista displays it, but try looking at these two:
- It should be obvious if you see Memory as a graph. It should be the 2nd graph.
- If not, try looking at the bottom and find a section saying "Physical Memory (K)."
Also I think you're better off showing a picture instead if you don't know the maximum.

The one you currently have highlighted is the one you should try to run it on. I believe he should have enough memory to run a gamemaker application simply because he is able to run Windows Vista, considering how much of a memory hog it is to even run. :P

I suggest that compatibility mode Sly suggested and hopefully it works. When Windows went Vista, a lot of things couldn't work, so try that.
Ive done everything you guys have said and its not working. :( It sucks that it works on my slow computer though... It's an old Dell computer. Windows XP/ -__-
I would also suggest the compatibility mode, that would have been one of my next suggestions. The only other thing that comes to mind at the moment, which is probably a stretch, is to ensure your graphics drivers are up to date. Although I'd imagine you would most likely get a different kind of error if they had anything to do with it anyways.
I keep feeling like there is something I'm forgetting though, and that I've seen this error before. So I will keep thinking and let you know if I think of anything else. In the mean time, I'd try the comatibility mode, run as admin, restarting your computer if you havn't already, and ensuring you have the latest windows updates/graphics drivers.
Well, before we attempt to see if the way you're running the game or what is configured is the underlying cause, I think you should try to run another gamemaker game to see if it's a problem on gamemaker games with your computer. Would you mind posting your directx diagnostics information here? It can be done by following these steps
1 From your Windows "Start" button, select "Run...". Type run into the search box.
2 Type DxDiag in the "Open:" field and hit Enter.
3 DxDiag will start, and may display a prompt that begins "Do you want to allow DxDiag to check if your drivers are digitally signed..." Answer "Yes" to this query if it appears.
4 A window entitled "DirectX Diagnostic Tool" appears, and in the lower left corner, a bar will begin to collect the DxDiag information relating to the system's hardware and Windows component configuration.
5 When the progress indicator disappears, hit the "Save All Information" button. Save this file as DxDiag.txt where it can be easily located. By default, DxDiag will place this file on the Desktop.
Note: If you do not see a button that allows you to save the output, you will need to log on to Windows as the Administrator.
After doing this post the contents in the .txt here. Also, if you read this Meiun would it be possible to add the ability to add attachments to posts through the 'additional options...' menu when creating a post? It would make it easier for events such as this or similar problems.

Well sadly this isn't helpful, but I recognize that error. That is the game maker "fluke" error. It's pretty rare, and when it happens nobody knows the !@#$ why. It's only ever happened to 1 of my games when run on certain computers. Nobody really knows why it happens...some weird internal GM thing.

Ahh your running on a netbook? I noticed you have an atom processor which is definitely an indication of that. Could you possibly find and post the graphics card information from the dxdiag? You could either probably find it in that file listing, or just by going to the Device section under the Display tab.

It depends entirely on the specs of the netbook really. I have a netbook that it runs fine on, and I know of a few others who have done so as well. It certainly is a possibility that it could have something to do with it though. Your card certainly has enough video memory to run it (although Im sure most of that is borrowed from your system RAM), but as for the card itself I don't know too much about it. Typically Intel integrated graphics cards are pretty awful, especially in highly mobile based devices. But even then, I'd be quite surprised if the game didnt even start up.
When you click on the battery indicator on your task bar, what power plan does it list you as using? I would try to make sure it's on the high/maximum performance one if you can and see if that has any impact. I'm really not quite sure what else to try at this point if you have tried everything else.
That is indeed enough memory to run the game in any case. Even the processor speed should be sufficient enough to run it. I have less VRAM than that and it runs fine. Try setting your resolution to a different setting and see if it works. Try 1280x800, you can change it back if it doesn't work afterward. This may cause the icons on the desktop to become ajar, it should be fine though since you have an image with the desktop on the first page if this does happen. Stick-online by default asks for 1024x768 as the recommended resolution.
He has enough total video memory available, but I believe the card itself is extremely crude if I'm not mistaken. But even then, I'd still imagine it would be good enought to at least start the game. But I really don't know enough about it to say for sure. Setting the resolution differently probably wouldn't have much of an impact. As long as your resolution is at 1024 wide, and 600 high, you should be fine.
However, I did just notice that your color depth is set to only 16 bit? I would imagine that would cause an issue well before the resolution would. I would try setting that up to 32 bit and see if that helps.
Ah, yes. I did not notice it said 16 bit because the image is kind of hard to read with the size of the image. I should have enlarged it. I believe if it's under 24 bit it's possible for it to be a problem, so yeah, set it to 32 bit.

Im pretty sure it's just my Net Book, thanks for all the help though guys, i really appreciate it.
Looked around a bit and received a few reports of problems with that net-book and Gamemaker. Maybe people noted the GPU wasn't powerful enough to run it. There were a few other reports of the problem being fixed when they installed a windows update. Is your system fully updated with windows updates? Another report showed it worked in 800x600 resolution for some reason, lol.

When i have made games in gamemaker i found that this error sometimes happened when i made to large of sprites that the computer couldn't load in the game. so i think its just your computer that cant load the game right.
since you haven't posted in 4 months i think you fixed this.

As far as I know this is mostly caused by memory issues. Also by redrawing a room in a draw event, or by calling a script from itself... So it must be a memory issue of some sort :S

I think it could be a problem with your DirectX. Could be missing some files or something bad happen to them.
Goto http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=35 and download and install this to make sure its not that. After installing it restart your computer and try and run the game.
If that does not work then its most likely really bad graphics/sound drivers.
Im gonna try that as of now RainBow Dash, and yea, its been 4 months and i never got it fixed. lol
