Title: SO art
Post by: Pinball on July 02, 2009, 02:36:08 AM
Drew these by just looking at sprites from the game, I guessed on the parts that were to hard to make out, such as the skel's hands.  Also kept the details on the low side, like leaving out the needles on the cactus.

No it's a font called  Jester, I think a while back Scotty said it was the font he used on the SO website banner.

Added a DS attacking, I think it's the best one I made.

I would but it would take to much time to make all that, just designing one npc takes around 2-3 hours.

Haha, thanks. I seriously don't want to hijack this thread, but what else should I make?

I also think I overdid it with the shading... Should've kept it little bit more cylindrical, so it looks more like a rock. But this looks far cooler than the cylindrical version I have... I'll post it later maybe.

I guess your work is more 'serious' than Pinball's. Not saying that Krele's is like, better or something. I'm saying it's more epic, while Pinball's versions are more 'comical'.

I wanna see a Pumpkin, from the halloween event. He's small, so you gotta be super detailed! Seriously though, Pinball and Krele, those are all so epic. I think one of you should start a Stick Online comic book using graphics like this. That'd be tight. Keep it up!

I personally use Gimp and Photoshop CS4. I prefer Gimp over photoshop, because if you have some skill in language named Python, you're godlike in gimp, and can do many things photoshop users cannot. I'll probably make a tutorial for you guys later.

Also, thanks people. Yeah well, I do use a much more serious version of shading, but I don't see how is my art better than pin's in any way either. It's.... art, heh.

Anyways, I'll edit this topic when I finish the BBB... Which shouldn't take more than an hour or two...

Not fully correct. You apply light where it is on the sprite in the game, it looks cool, but it's wrong. Burn tool, smudge tool, layer blending, grain extraction etc... Lotsa business here to make it look good ^^;

I don't see how it's lite wrong, you can have the light sources wherever way you wish and it will be correct as long as the entire graphic follows by it..  And as for the extra things that you did besides the smudge seem to be a waste, this is what I was able to do and it looks just as good or better then what you have done.

Why are you pissed off? You can't have the light source where shadows should've been casted... No, the extra stuff made it look better than yours :3. It looks better if you leave the smudge waves in some places. Makes it more real, and less gradien-looking. But still, it's a quite nice picture you got there.

Re-read the first post, search for any word or sentence that says anything about how people should post their own SO art, then "Think for a change..." you thickheaded prick. Idiot... Do you see a word or sentence that says it's forbidden? I never even told anything about pin' art being wrong or something, he said he wants constructive crtism (perhaps he didn't say, but it's a common sense, and should always be welcomed), and he commented my work too. You never uploaded any work at all, so why are you even talking about something you halfly-know, or don't know at all?

I like the van pin. If I would even try doing it, it wouldn't overlap so perfectly on the texture like you did. Good job on this one.

Hoping?
If I had that van I would shit bricks.

I was hoping because if it was real, then the owner would have no life ;D
There's people who do long, flawless, time-consuming paint jobs like that, believe you me....

And that van is INCREDIBLE, Pinball. +karma.

I'd be pissed off too if someone came into my art topic and started displaying their pictures too.  >.>

The topic is in Media part of the forums, and is named SO art... What makes you think you can't submit your own art? Think for a change...
Re-read the first post, search for any word or sentence that says anything about how people should post their own SO art, then "Think for a change..." you thickheaded prick. Now I'm sure Pin has nothing against people posting their own SO art, but when people as cocky as you come along and tell them their work is Wrong, it becomes more of an issue.

I do like your art though.

-Karma

Gtfo of this topic you arrogant ass. No one cares what you think.

I love Pinballs art. It is the perfect compliment to the SO graphical style. The art style is very cartoony, and Pinball takes that theme and applies it to a more fully formed art style.

I would think that it would look like that because of the angle of the van. If you just normally pasted that picture on there it wouldn't have the correct aspects. He's using attention to detail :)

That's exactly what I thought of when I saw it. Though, considering Pinball is apparently extremely skilled with Game Maker, he could do it himself. What was the name of the game he did for that competition we had? Roll? That was an awesome game.

Nice work! If you were going to make an application for the pixel puzzle (I solved it yay) you could have it that it adds a hint every few seconds and you have like a menu with all the possible options, a square is filled with a hint every 3-6 seconds. If you guess it right you get points (start seconds - finish seconds) and you move onto another random puzzle (never the same one or one before) if you get it wrong you lose like 5 seconds. As you go on you get less time to solve the puzzle (meaning you get less hints) when the time runs out you lose, but your score is entered to an online highscore table. There should be a minimum time so the puzzle is actually solvable but it's still hard to beat at this time. It requires have a clock ticking noise to increase the suspense and when you finish a puzzle, it glows from the edge of each square and fills the screen with light and when it fades you can see a color image of the object you guessed. It should have all the hats, all the weapons, all the monsters and a stick (maybe in different poses like standing sitting to add slightly more variety).

-Made the Pixel Puzzle program so people don't have to use ms paint to solve the puzzles.  It also includes two new puzzles (please don't post what they are), and the one I posted earlier which was the blob as seen in the screen shot.

-Screen Shot-
(http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i165/midnight_club_2004/PixelPuzzleSS.png)

-Download-
http://host-a.net/Pinball/Pixel%20Puzzle.zip (http://host-a.net/Pinball/Pixel%20Puzzle.zip)

-Controls-
Left Click - cycles between the primary color and white.
Right Click - cycles between the secondary color and white.
Middle Click - cycles between box and circle shape.
Ctrl Left Click - sets the primary color to the color under the cursor.
Ctrl Right Click - sets the secondary color to the color under the cursor.
S key - save the puzzle.
L key - load the puzzle.
Delete - changes all the boxes' color back to white.
R key - changes the primary and secondary colors to random colors.
Shift key - changes every box with the color thats under the cursor to the primary color.
F11 - saves puzzle with grid as .bmp file.
F12 - saves puzzle without grid as .bmp file.
H key - displays controls.
Space bar - loads the hint picture.

-Other Info-
-The puzzle 'Stick Online 2' is a color puzzle.
-If you create a puzzle using the hint template I included, make sure you save it as a .bmp, .jpg, or .gif file otherwise the program won't recognize it, also make sure it's in the same folder as the .exe.
-If you color in the picture, you probably want the SO sky color, so in the pop up color changer, change the RGB to Red=166 Green=254 Blue=254.

Also, now that you mention it, it kind of has the same style. I can't imagine it being a direct reference to Noise though, since Noise icons are more punk styled.
