Double post:

Server is back up!  In an effort to optimize the load times of the map files, and reduce lag, I attempted to disable the swap on my server so that files weren't going to get written to disk when they should be written to memory.  Speaking of memory, I also placed all world files into memory, so now as far as read/write goes for the server files, they should be blindingly fast, but how the java process handles that is something entirely different...  But hey, I'm trying.

Server may come down periodically as I install a few craftbukkit mods to fend off griefers and try to help get some of the commands to the users.

Considering the time it takes for you to wait for it to flush all the sugar cane down, and then spend time replanting, pretty sure it'd be faster to just harvest by hand <_<

Not unless the farm is really wide and long, ESPECIALLY if it's really wide.

Well I guess you're right about time increasing, but it doesn't take much effort. You could do something else while you wait for it to go down. That way you could only spend a total of 2 minutes just replanting while it takes 3 minutes cutting it all down, collecting the reeds, and fixing mistakes.
