So Funny junk is trying to sue Oatmeal for writing a blog post about them that 'defames' their website. When what he did was notify the admin of all the comics that were not rightfully placed on his site, then write a blog post about the whole ordeal. And now FJ is suing Oatmeal for $20,000 in damages.
Well, Oatmeal disapproves (and apparently so do many people on the internet, even FJ users) and he started out trying to raise $20,000 and was instead going to give half to the wildlife foundation and the other half to the American cancer society.
Well, people have spoken and have donated almost $100,000 to his "BearLove good, cancer bad" fund.
Anyways, I think this story is epicly hilarious and you can all read about it below :D

An update: Carreon (the lawyer suing Oatmeal) is now suing the 2 charities (Nat. Wildlife Federation & American Cancer Society) that TheOatmeal is raising funds for. Bigger douchebaggery cannot possibly exist.....

Glad to see he isn't backing down when it it obvious FunnyJunk in in the wrong for the matter. Although, not sure how people outside the internet would feel with his witty comments on the matter, doubt it would be taken so far as to have such people take it seriously though. Trying to shut down two organizations when FunnyJunk simply relies on content that is not their own is sad. FunnyJunk was semi-popular what, seven years ago, if not more? It should just die.

At this point, FJ has been removed from the equation.  This is a (beyond) personal vendetta from the lawyer to personally sue Inman, IndieGoGo (the site that's hosting his fund-raiser), the National Wildlife Foundation, and the American Cancer Society.  He isn't representing FJ in any of this at this point, but was originally before Inman's lawyer replied stating that Inman can easily attain immunity from the 1st amendment, and might even qualify for a red-flag exception, thus nullifying FJ's DMCA immunity, and likely thus having repercussions of its own (site gets shut down, etc).  When you think about it, who's going to win the courts favor?  An original comic artist, comedian, and commentator, or a bully who makes a profit off of stolen material that he claims he's not responsible for (but he is for the money wha?), and is demanding $20k from an artist who's content he's facilitated the theft of.

Bully tactic one failed, so Carreon went back to the whiteboard, jacked up a couple syringes of ego 'roids, and is coming back with some serious, embarrassing, and frivolous rage.  It'll (likely) get dismissed, but Carreon admitted in an interview that he has every intent to scour the (supposedly massive) California law with the hopes of at least pinning something on him.  He won't give up until Inman burns, or the lawyer does something illegal and gets disbarred.

Judging by his write-up though, his thinking is so irrational that he can't even write up an accurate complaint without either leaving out facts from ignorance (he'd call it an oversight), or maybe even neglect.  The guy is so high strung from the mom-bear illustration he isn't even able to think straight.

EDIT: I metioned this to Igu, Luci, and Haon yesterday over TS, but this is starting to become the 2011 fancy-pants law suit.  We can only hope for a similar outcome, minus the damages to the Oatmeal of course.

I love this part:
Quote"It became clear to me at one point that I could not keep up with Charles," Modelista wrote. "His comments to the press were more damaging to his reputation than any Twitter parody account could ever be. You cannot mock someone who has such a low regard for his own reputation. Before the @Charles_Carreon account was suspended, I was simply linking to his interviews. Satire was not necessary at that point as Charles was providing it."

Looks like Captain Clitsquiggle was interviewed by Ars:

Every suspicion I had about this guy's motives are correct.  He is quite possibly the most unstable and least desirable lawyer I think anyone could hire.  Judging by how frivulous this man is willing to get just to flex his ego, we can only hope he gets disbarred through all of this.

Oh wow. This guy needs to just shut up already... -.-
All he's doing is making himself sound more and more butt hurt.

Also this:
QuoteBefore demanding the $20,000, which was based on FunnyJunk's "estimate of advertising losses sustained due to the taint of being accused of engaging in willful copyright infringement," Carreon was told that all Oatmeal comics had been taken off the FunnyJunk site, even though they hadn't. "If I had known... no demand would have gone out," he says.
They guy is supposedly working 22 hour days, and he "works hard. really hard." and he didn't bother to check whether his client took down evidence that could be used against them?

Yeah... 22 hours a day and he still has time to blog about photoshopped nude politicians and dog on past presidents as though we want to continue hearing excuses for why crap's effed up around our parts.

Update:

http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2012/06/charles-carreon-just-wont-give-up

Yep, this has to be his largest career-limiting mistake.  On top of it all, if it's true that he plans to fight for 50% of the donations (leaving the other 50% for the NWF and ACS), he is officially the biggest, greediest douche of a lawyer I think anyone could find.  I'd be ashamed to have this man as my attorney after all this is over.

QFT. I think you summed it all up... He's a greedy douche, bye-bye lawyer career, no one will want to hire him again.
When I don't think he could possibly go any further, he makes another leap further in the douchebag direction.
