For those that don't know. Urban exploration (often shortened as urbex or UE) is the examination of the normally unseen or off-limits parts of urban areas or industrial facilities.(Taken from Wikipedia)

WARNING: This is not a safe activity, and I do not encourage any of you to try it. That said, if you do attempt this, please make sure you have proper safety equipment such as a respirator, first aid supplies, and knowledge of the area you are trying to access.  Also remember the two golden rules of UE. Take only pictures, leave only footprints. And never go alone.

Anyway here are some shots I took recently about an old radar base that was part of the early warning system in the 1950's and 1960's.

Why you bring a respirator.

A view from one of the radar installations at the top of the mountain looking down on the old generator room.

Part of the mess hall a few miles farther down the mountain.

The old beams that supported the radar installation on top of the tower.

A view from the biggest tower looking down on a smaller one.

The main room of the mess hall.

A gift left behind for us.

I'm really curious if anyone else on the forum is into UEing or anything like it.

Someone in my photography class had done some pictures like this, they were pretty sweet. I would have to travel a ways to find anything like that I think... :/

This reminds me of a very creepy report several years back (around 2007) of some photographers going through Highland Park in Detroit.  I wouldn't go there for a million dollars, but the guys who did to take photos had some cajones (decades old dead rotting carcasses on operating tables being the prime gag-inducing part of the article).  Unfortunately the report looks like it was wiped, but there are many other great reports with some excellent photography:

That's what I thought at first too, but a Google search with your area might turn up a few things, also used Google earth to see where possible locations were located.
(I actually have heard Flickr is pretty good for this too.)

Also that seems like a pretty good site Scotty, I've seen a few others like that. Thankfully I've never run into anything but normal dead animals. (Actually at the base we saw very recent activity of someone being there, such as paper plates and cups along with plastic forks in one building with what looked like a fairly new mattress. It was a good thing that no one was home when we went up though.

I'm gonna go through the pictures a bit more thoroughly later and see if I can find a few more good shots to post up.

This photo is from the first link you posted and I think it's pretty haunting...
