Hey! I remember a couple of years back, I posted a rig that I had received as a gift on Christmas. That current rig (the one I am using as of now) is:

Zotac GTX 560 TI 1GB (Overclocked)
16GB DDR3 1333MHz RAM
i5 2320 Quad Core 3GHz Processor
1TB HHD
Dual Monitors, Razor Deathadder mouse, Razor Arctosa keyboard, and a HAF 912 case.

I really enjoy the computer. It was very fun to build, and it worked out perfectly. But, we need a computer to play movies upstairs, so this one will be put up there, and I will be building a new one soon. (Probably sometime next year, money is rather tight)

So I have listed out some parts, and my MAXIMUM budget is about $1400. The parts I have listed are around $1200-1300 in all. Tell me what you think:

Overclocked GTX 680 4GB w/ 3 fans ($540)

i5 3570k Quad Core 3.4GHz ($230)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116504

MSI H77 LGA1155 Motherboard ($90)

Kingston 32GB DDR3 Registered Server Memory ($240)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820239235

HAF 912 Case (Already purchased)

1TB WD Blue HHD ($85)

Corsair 650TX PSU ($100)

So, this list comes up to around $1284. This will probably change over a year, so the prices will drop. What do you think? Any suggestions?

Thanks!

You could just build a cheap computer for playing movies. I mean the one you have now is great and i don't see why you would need an upgrade any time soon.

Hmm... well, what would you recommend as a build to play Blu-ray movies? And soft-core games. (CoD, GTA, etc.) I'm up for suggestions.

This should be more than enough to play movies and play those games (without maxing out the graphics):

CPU: Intel i3-3220
Mobo: Asrock B75 Pro3-M
RAM: Corsair XMS3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3-1600
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 500GB (ST500DM002)
GPU: 1GB AMD Radeon HD7770
Case&PSU: Thermaltake V4 Black Edition w/ USB3 and 500W Litepower PSU
ODD: DVD burner

That comes to around $500. of course that is in AUD and from Australian stores so it would be a bit different for you. But it would be absolutely useless using your gaming PC to play movies. You're current gaming PC is fine, it may be worth upgrading the video card but that would be it.

I say buy a blu-ray player and keep your current computer. If you're tight on money and want something to play movies on, a blu-ray player is way cheaper than building a new computer. If you just built your computer a couple years back you should be able to continue using it. Maybe just upgrade the ram or something...

Yeah, there is nothing wrong with the computer, it works very well. I'll probably just do that if I can find a good deal on one :D
