Help making a cheap-ish gaming computer?

Currently I'm at the point where I hate my current computer. Nothing wrong with it in particular, however it is a laptop the was made more for school work and kind of like not at all for gaming. It runs most games on low/very low, though fairly poorly. I'd like to be able to run games on higher settings than low and higher than 15-20 fps. However, I'm also looking to spend as little as possible.

So I made what I think would give me good performance for the price.(Keep in mind I'm just looking to be able to run most games, not trying to run the newest games on very high getting 60 fps)
I know that there are at least a few members here who really know their computer stuff, so I want to make sure everything is compatible/I'm not missing a core piece/and that I'm buying parts that aren't complete crap.

Personally, I'd spend the extra money to get a 2gb virtual card. I know you said you don't care as much about playing all the new games at max graphics, but its really not that much more money and many new games are taking up more and more memory, I feel like 1gb cards will be outdated quickly, especially on a higher resolution monitor.

I'd recommend this, its pretty much the same as the one you have listed except with the 2gb instead of 1 and its not much  more expensive.

Also, shouldn't you use a full atx motherboard for a mid tower?
One more more thing, the Sapphire Cards are very good overclockers(running my 6850 at 950/1170 at 1.2v) and seems to stay cool.
The sapphire TRIXX utility works well for me, but you have to load the profile again whenever you start it up.

u have a cpu using amd's FM2 socket but the motherboard is amd's AM3+ socket

I do have an OS I can get my hands on, I think my school has a fairly good deal on windows if you're a student.

EDIT: Was wrong actually, all I have is a mouse and headset so I added in keyboard/wifi adapter/monitor.

I know that $600 isn't bad considering I need everything but a mouse, but I would probably want to not try and go any higher than that.

i think you can do better then 600 for about the same parts and since you are gona have a dedicated vid card using a apu cpu doesnt make alot of since, since they arent as powerful for an equally priced cpu. 70 daloors in rebates and combos

The thing that bothers me about the 660 is that it has its voltage locked by default.
I bought the Sapphire Radeon HD 7850, as it was recommended to me for overclocking, turns out with a decent cooler I brought it up to nearly par with the 7950.
