Scotty's Sound Effect Competition

What this competition is:
This competition is meant to be a fun little competition between some of the creative members of the community to come up with some wacky and fun sound effects.  Based off of a list of creatures that will be displayed below, users may make sound effects for any or all of the creatures as they see fit.  There will be plenty of diversity in the quality and themes of the sounds generated.  This is not a closed invitation competition, and the reward is nothing.  Well... Nothing other than being known as the Subject Matter Expert on making kick-ass sound effects!  Who knows, someone might even bring ya on to do sound effects for them elsewhere!  Ya never know!

What this competition is not:
This competition is in NO WAY affiliated to Stick Online.  None of the GMs have any influence in any of this competition, this is all mine.  This competition does not yield any physical reward.  This competition is not boring, and is not made of fail.

The Rules (aka The Boring Crap):
The rules are simple.  A list is provided below.  This list will contain a list of creative creatures.  You do not have to do all of them, but you just might find yourself wanting to if you get into it!  For each creature, please submit 3 sound effects:

  • Movement - This sound effect will be used (looped a couple of times preferably for clarity) if the creature were to move across a surface or air
  • Attack - This sound effect will be used when the creature attacks something
  • Getting hit - This sound effect will be used when the creature is hit by something (ie a weapon, a falling rock, a set of voluptuous bosoms, etc...)

If you feel like there would be any other good sounds, feel free to add!  This is a very loosely based competition with lots of room for flexibility.  Heck, if you don't wanna do any of those sounds and come up with 3 of your own sounds for every time the creature belches, bounces, and bumps into booties, then go for it!

So!  With all that said, here is the list thus far.  I may expand this later on:

  • Man-Eating Gorilla
  • Boxing Kangaroo
  • Chaos

Also, for those like me who have NO idea of what we are doing when it comes to sound, I'll try to get ya started.  First off, go here:
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
And download Audacity.  It's free and open source.  It's an excellent tool, and I've used it in the past to do similar work for fun with game, has plenty of sound effects, all sorts of tools, it'll suit the needs of us amateurs.  For the more experienced, if you have Adobe Soundbooth, that'll do too!

For uploading, mediafire appears to do file uploads.  You can add your files to media fire and then link to them here!
http://www.mediafire.com/

For the new guys like myself who don't know where to start, here are some tips.  First off, if you have a microphone, you have an infinite amount of ideas at your fingertips.  The sound of a car engine rev'ing can easily turn into the sound of a rifle charging.  You can take any sound and morph it and twist it with Audacity to turn it into whatever you want it to sound like.  If you don't have a mic but would like to try (as it might be pretty fun to you), check out this website that has a bunch of free mp3s:
http://www.a1freesoundeffects.com/
Take some of their sounds and twist them to be relevant to this competition.  Please don't just take a sound and post it here, put in the effort to go and modify it to make it unique.  You will find that Audacity is an amazing tool for this kind of stuff!

All are welcome to participate, so lets get started!  You might just find this fun to participate in!

Meiun

Should be interesting to see how this turns out. While I make no promises whatsoever, if one of you turns out to be some sound effects genius then who knows, I may consider using you for the new Stick Online if you were up for it.

Mr Pwnage

I would be more inclined to participate if you came up with more practical ideas than:
    * Ginormous Sunglasses-Wearing, Slime-Slinging, Meat-Hungry Electric Eel
    * Blind Metro-Sexual Dodo Bird
    * Chaos

As funny as those would be.... :/

Fair Enough.  Done.

Pinball

Ah suppose I'll try.. although I'm rather poor with sounds tweaking/creation.

Well...I actually learned I wasn't that bad at making sound effects after my last couple games...though I mainly did it for objects (like spinning razors) and not monsters...Anyways I gave this a go and I thought they all turned out pretty cool. I made them all with my mouth :) (scary eh?). I also only wanted to do the Gorilla:

Movement:
gorillamove.wav - 0.31MB

Attack:
gorillaattack.wav - 0.16MB

Hit:
gorillahit.wav - 0.12MB

*After the page loads refresh it, because it cuts off the first 1-2 seconds of the clip when it tries to loop the sound for some reason on this host. (It only plays correctly the first time.)

Does sound like a dinosaur, but I like to think of that as a bad-ass gorilla that really wants you in his belly.

Pinball's are good too, I would recommend maybe doing more than just one cycle, maybe repeat it a couple of times for ease of listening, but it's short, sweet, and not bad at all!

I'm working on Chaos, and even though he is aware that I am recording his voice off of ventrilo, he doesn't care!  Hope to have some of my own tries up here as well.

Apparently Mr. Pwnage is a dinosaur.
That's exactly what I was thinking.
Well it could go either way...they are both big, loud, deep/low sound, etc. Supposed to be a Gorilla though. :)
