How do you stop lag? (ping)

It appears that I still have the 600-1k+ ping, so any suggestions on what I can do?

Anyways, I still need help to reduce lag...

edit-Also, ping to my modem or whatever, is really high for no reason. I also am right next to it and its still ranging at about 700-1k ping.

Ok is your system a laptop or a desktop?
And are you using wifi or wired?

If your using wifi then try wiring it and see if your ping goes down. This will tell use if your wifi messing up at your local network.

If you have a laptop try and goto another place with wifi. This will tell us if its your system or local network is the problem.  

If your on a desktop and cant goto a wifi spot then try using another computer thats on the same local network as you and see if so runs well on that pc.

There other things but for now ill leave you with that.

Currently, now I think that it was my computer, as after a shutdown during the night, everything has returned to normal.
