Post by: ARTgames on April 18, 2011, 04:18:03 PM

I am sort of in the same boat as Jake. I really want to get that game, but not sure I've got the spare cash for that sort of stuff right now =(

I dunno if I want to spend $60 on this game(PS3)... the great thing about the first one was Orange Box.. I may buy it when the price comes down some.

Anyways, looks like an awesome game of course.  :)

Preordered it back in March. Definitely excited for it, I've been collect potatoes for the games I do own out of that sack bundle. (Though I didn't but any from it). Sadly, I am leaving for my cousins house in Georgia tonight....I highly doubt they own a PC that can run it...I basically preordered it and preloaded it only to have to wait a week to play anyways. *sadface* But yeah. Seeing how portal was such a revolutionary game, very excited to see how the coop works.

Pre-ordered it a couple of days ago.

Definitely pretty excited about it. My main concern will be whether or not the same charm and originality that the first, much shorter game had will transfer properly to a (longer) sequel.

Preordered it 8 days ago. I got Portal 1 for free and a bonus pack to come with Portal 2 when it gets released. I even pre-downloaded it from Steam. This means that when I come home from school, I'll be playing Portal 2 tomorrow. =) I also have a brother that likes Portal too, so yay co-op!

On a related note, Portal 2 is included with the Potato Sack, which is a collection of indie games on Steam. Great price for the amount of quality, I might add.

Wait, how is it included. It doesn't actually say that. It says the special ends when portal 2 releases, and it says you get a special skin in portal 2. It does not say you get Portal 2. This would be an awesome deal though.

And yes. I absolutely want this game. Loved Portal 1. I just can't afford it right now...

Edit:
Oh. You're talking about this aren't you: http://store.steampowered.com/sub/7852/

That's the Potatoe Sak + Portal 2 for $78.71 (which is too much for me)

At least its only $45 - $50 on Steam x.x

Though is you get the PS3 version, you get a free copy of the PC version as well. Could be the same for the Xbox360, but I'm no sure.

Game. Is. Amazing.

PURCHASE IT, I SAY.

Edit: And for either PS3 or PC/Mac. Because PS3 is now connected to Steam and we can all play cross-platform. (Unless you own a 360.)

I have to point out. Whether there are any or not, please do not spoil any kind of twists the game might have. Just don't even talk about it. I probably won't be able to play this game for at least months and I'd like to go into it without any idea of what might happen...

Then its probably best to avoid anything portal related for the next few months.

This game is awesome! However, it seems to be missing one thing.

Just realized that you need another Portal 2 to play co-op. I don't have $50. My bro, although, is making a ton of cash. He was making $720 a week, so I hope he gets it. The game was REALLY good, especially the ending. It was so good, I didn't even know what happened...

I don't really know. He's in college. At first he lied and said he was being a drug dealer, (where we had to go to court) but then he said "That's not how I got the money." So I don't know anymore... Do you get money from being in college?

I beat co-op with random people online. I had a lot of fun. All I have to say is that I really suggest this game.

The game is excellent!  Bought it for Jake and I on his b-day, and haven't regretted the purchase.  So many one liners in there.  So many!

Some of my favorite quotes:
Alright, I've been thinking. When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade. Make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don't want your damn lemons! What am I supposed to do with these?! Demand to see life's manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons! Do you know who I am? I'm the man who's gonna burn your house down! With the lemons! I'm gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!
Oh, in case you get covered in that Repulsion Gel, here's some advice the lab boys gave me: [sound of rustling pages] "Do not get covered in the Repulsion Gel." We haven't entirely nailed down what element it is yet, but I'll tell you this: It's a lively one and it does not like the human skeleton.
Most test subjects do experience some cognitive deterioration after a few months in suspension. Now you've been under for... quite a lot longer, and it's not out of the question that you might have a very minor case of serious brain damage. But don't be alarmed, alright? Although, if you do feel alarm, try to hold onto that feeling because that is the proper reaction to being told you have brain damage.

Just finished the prequel. Absolutely amazing! Might buy the sequel as well.
The only thing that I didn't find enjoyable is... The physics are not as amazing as everyone says, they're pretty mediocre to be exact. Graphics are a measly 7/10 to me, but graphics weren't something I expected to enjoy. Gameplay, on the other hand, is brilliant. It's a unique puzzle game and I enjoyed every minute spent playing it.

Absolutely is.  Don't know about replay value, but I'd probably do it for the hilarious quotes alone.  Probably going down as one of the best games of 2011.

You realize the graphics is the Source engine. In my opinion, all of the Valve Source engine games have amazing graphics design. The graphics themselves are not technically very good, but the effort they put into the design of the graphics makes up for that immensely. The fact that the Source engine is as old as it is, while still being as good looking as it is says something about that.

Beat both coop and single player.

My favorite scene from the whole game:

<Spoiler>
When your trying to use one of the launchers to propel yourself into a portal on the ceiling, you don't make it by about 3 feet or so each time you try. GlaDos tells you to lose some weight. Than she says. "Okay, that's enough. I'll just lower the ceiling."

I just downloaded Portal 2 and it works great. Awesome game, very nice graphics and runs very smooth on my PC. One thing I don't like about the game, (it's probably just my computer), it closes randomly every 30-45 minutes.

I can assure you that was intentional. It heightens the gaming experience when one must continuously re-open the game. If a game doesn't do this, I will not buy it. Ever.

I'm pretty sure Valve is smart enough to leave the series alone. Surely, they don't need anymore funds for DotA 2! *hinthint*

Wait... what? They're smart enough to not continue with one of the greatest fictional worlds the gaming industry has ever seen? What are you talking about? Keep in mind, Portal ties in with Half-Life. Half-Life 2 Ep3 will be coming out and no doubt will have some sort of tie in with the Portal games. Something has to tie the 2 game series together. I would love to see Chell and Gordon Freeman fighting alongside eachother. Portal gun + Grav gun = Awesome gameplay!

No way. There's so much left to uncover. How does Aperture Science tie in with the Half Life story? Chell escapes right? But she escaped into the same world Gordon Freeman is fighting against aliens and what not. All the shit going on out there, she now has to deal with. And she's got a Portal Gun! Which has something to do with the other stoyline as well.

The thing about Portal 2 is that it was about the labratory, GLaDOS, and Wheatley. It really didn't have much to do with Chell and her non-existent personality. She was just a blank slate to make the character feel like they were her. To include her in a game with Gordon as the main character means they'd have to give her a personality and a voice, which sounds like it'd be awfully weird. Honestly, I don't think Half-Life 3 be including anything from Portal, except for maybe a wink and a nod... And possibly the portal gun... But I doubt it.

Chell has one character trait that Valve emphasizes in the comics. She is INCREDIBLY determined, I think it was like in the 99.9 percentile of any of the test subjects. There's a comic backstory: http://www.thinkwithportals.com/comic/
