I believe these are called "Demotivationals", as they demotivate, and not motivate. So you might want to fix your topic title...

Who cares? It's a picture of Hitler. He was a !@#$ed up guy who killed people. As such, we make fun of him by including him in demotivationals.

I have no problem with a poster making fun of Hitler, believe me. I am not a very sensitive person as far as feelings go. I have my boundary though. My problem with that one is that it isn't making fun of Hitler, it is making fun of the fact how he killed people. Hence the 6mil achievement part of it. Not trying to sound like some domestic housewife that enforces every single moral in the world (which my mom is...in a rather let's just say abusive manner), but I choose not to make fun of sensitive areas like this because it does greatly offend some people and I strongly believe people shouldn't have to be reminded of dead relatives so people can get a good laugh off. Hope you understand where I'm comming from now.

I'm sorry, I have to speak up. I am Jewish, and I agreed with everything Pwnage said. It's okay to make fun of Hitler. It's NOT okay to make light of the fact that he killed millions of people. There's a distinct difference in those two things. Please, post pictures of Hitler in as degrading a manner as possible... just please try to lay off the holocaust stuff. And I'm sorry again if I'm killing the party, but I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

My point is that taking these pictures seriously is ridiculous. Nobody is laughing at the millions of people who died, they're just laughing at the humor in the picture. Laughing at the humor behind it doesn't make it racist of any sort, it just means you recognize a joke when you see one. Some might respond to that "OMG, THE HOLOCAUST WASN'T A JOKE!!11", if you do you're still not getting the point. Again I saw these are NOT meant to be racist.

But, I'm not going to argue the point any further than that, if you actually feel strongly about it I don't want to start an argument. If I'd been brought up Jewish I might be offended too.

Rather than drag this out, I'll say I agree with what Scott said. It's not racist, but it's not okay to joke about this kind of thing regardless of what you think you're laughing about. Just because you think something is funny doesn't mean everyone will. And telling someone not to take it seriously is also kind of offensive. I know you're just making a joke, I know it's supposed to be funny, but I still think it's not right.

Anyways, no big deal, I just wanted to speak my mind.

The cat's just an analogy. It has to do with the Copenhagen interpretation of a superposition of an atom in quantum physics. Basically, the Copenhagen interpretation implies that the superposition undergoes collapse into a definite state only at the exact moment of quantum measurement, and because quantum measurement is extremely ill-defined so far, it gives way to numerous confusing situations/paradoxes.

EDIT: Unfortunately, that was the short version.  :(

Yea good work, you guys seem to have worked out the Quantum Physics one. So pretty much, you don't know if the "random" event has happened yet, and if you open the box either two things could have happened. The random event has occurred or the cat is still alive, either of which will be the cats permanent form from the moment you open the box. That is the way I interpreted it.

Wrong. We do know they have the same value because it says so in the first line: "a = b"
and actually it is perfectly correct up until the very end. Assuming both A and B are 0, let me show you:

0=0

0^2=0(0)
0=0

0^2-0^2=0(0)-0^2
0=0

(0+0)(0-0)=0(0-0)
0=0

(0+0)=0    ------------> Also on this line is where a=2 and b=2 becomes impossible: ( (2+2)=2 doesn't work...therefore a and b ALREADY have to be 0 )

0+0=0

2(0)=0

0=0


THEREFORE:
a=0
b=0

No. The problem is that they made complete bullshit of the last line with 2=1. Cause this whole problem works if both a and b are 0. And just for the on you mentioned:

Assuming both and a and b are 2:


(2+2)(2-2) = 2(2-2)

(4)-(4) = 2 (0)

0 = 0

It still works...the only problems where 0 is the only answer are under that one...check my explanation above for detail.

They didn't plug in 1 or anything; they divided both sides by a, thus getting 2 = a/a, and that ends up equaling 2 =1.

I'm in calculus this year, but I still can't deduce what is wrong - its something with the way they set it up, I think they did something they couldn't have.

Yeah - but they didn't plug in any numbers for that line. I'm saying they took '2a = a' and divided both sides by a, thus getting 2 = 1, because anything over itself is 1.

An equation only works if it works for all numbers. You can't say a=b only when they're both 0.

I can't figure out where the problem is with this. I just validated each step and it seems okay. I thought it was with the 4th step too but I just remembered FOIL. It's the reverse of that process (forgot what that's called). I'm sure there's some little thing that I'm not remembering from math that I took 15 years ago...

It's really easy. After the problem was factored, they divided both sides by (a-b) a=b therefore (a-b)=0 and they divided by zero, thus cheating the laws of mathematics and comprimising the integrity of their logic.

I don't think Australian English spells any words with the suffix "al" instead of "le". The only Australian spelling I'm aware of is "our" instead of "or" in words such as colour, but thats British English not Australian.
