Just found this indie game on ubuntugamer.com, and I'm in the process of downloading it.  Episode I is free, Ep. II is in development and will be 10 bucks when available.  The game is released under the GPL, or at least Ep. I is (not sure how paying for Ep. II jives with the GPL), but it looks totally bad ass!  It's a cell shaded massive top-down hovercraft shooter.

I'll post up more once I compile it and give it a run!

Looks like a decent game, but I don't know what necessarily makes this stand out from other top-down shooters to make it worthwhile? Is there anything about this game that makes it unique? As of right now I am pretty sure the best free top-down shooter is probably alien swarm.

It's hectic fun, that's what I love about it.  You are a hovercraft duking it out against other hovercrafts and turrets, with plenty of bosses.  The thing I do enjoy over this a bit more than Alien Swarm is the fact that it is a thinking mans game.  By thinking, I mean you have to stay on your toes the entire time.  Projectiles don't move towards you at bullet speeds, and can be dodged if you time your maneuvers appropriately.  Ok, so it's doable right?  Well now take 10 different hovercrafts and or turrets, have them all fire at you, and your mentality of "I can dodge this!" turns to "!@#$ my life!"

I will say that I'm interested to give multiplayer a go if anyone dl's it.  Single player is hectic enough as is, I'd love to see the chaos in adding another player to the confusion...
