So, Notch has begun work on a new space sim game that he has named 0x10c, and thus far, it's sounding pretty awesome.

Here's the official site: http://0x10c.com/

Here's an unofficial FAQ documenting all the details Notch has talked about on his twitter over the past 2 weeks: http://0x10.cc/

Favorite feature so far is that the ship computers will be actual emulated 16-bit CPUs.  Players will be able to create their own programs for their ships, or use the in-game internet to download programs that other player's have made.  You'll be able to program with the computers, and possibly enact cyber warfare on your opponents by infecting their ship's computer with viruses! :D

While it is true that it is emulating a 16-bit like CPU its more of a simplistic non real world one (at least that's what i heard. i think he was going to do a real 65802 but did this instead, but i could be wrong) Now that makes sense because it would be a big barrier to entry for players if you had to learn how to do it on a real thing. But it has the basics and its own mock asm and everything. I like the idea a lot and hope its gets people interested in low level computing like red stone might have for people to get into digital circuitry. Great teaching tool on how computers work. I really like low level stuff and just the idea of this game in general. :) Hope its all that he promises!

No, from everything I've read off Notch's twitter, it's essentially emulating a real computer.

QuoteWhat about the computer of the ship?

In this game the ship's computer will be fully simulated and fully programmable using an assembly language.

QuoteHow will you stop malicious viruses etc?

I won't stop viruses, the players will have to do that themselves.

QuoteIs the virtual computer going to be a large part of it? Or are less programming savvy people not going to be able to play?

Once there's software available in the game, people can use their computers like normal computers

QuoteCan the DCPU control comms? Imagining DCPU distributed processing, p2p or centralized nets, remote ship control, cyber warfare, etc

That's the idea!

Well by not real i did not mean it does not act computer like but what i was getting at is that its not emulating a piece of real hardware of a real cpu that existed at one time. Or that this system he made would work in real silicone. But instead a simplistic representation of a cpu with 8 registers with a word size of 16 bits that is turing complete. Or in other words notch is making his own Little man computer, sort of a toy cpu. Which is fine for a game. I will ask around, see what others think of it. I could be misunderstanding.

But ether way if im wrong or not i still love the idea.

Screenshots, I'm sure they are just early prototype shots:
