This campaign literally just started and he's already raised over the $850,000 goal. It's insanity.

The campaign is to help build a museum in the the name of the famous inventor he idolizes: Nikola Tesla.

Kind of freaky how much of a pull Matthew Inman has over the internet, but he's a clever guy no doubt.

Awesome investment on the Oatmeals part to raise $900k in such a quick time frame. It's saddening to see someone would buy it just to clear the land and build a 'retail establishment'.   :(

The Oatmeal should receive that grant for already raising $850k. :P (Unless he is the non-profit organization?)

Holy crap.. That's a hell of a lot of money. Talk about Mr. Popularity.

DarkTrinity

Yes, they needed 850k and then NY said they would double it if they met that goal, since they needed 1.6 mil for the land.
Though the money is just for the land, not the museum. So they'll still need a lot more...
But yes, Inman is definitely Mr. Popular, but for good reason, lol. He's got a good sense of humor, he gives back to the community.
Also they've almost hit 1million. Which is awesomeeee.

T-Rok

Come back home form work, 1.1 million. Holy crap.

From the Oatmeal:

Quote from: FacebookAs way of thanks for the museum project, someone donated a Tesla coil lighting gun to me for my 30th birthday. So last night I got together with Where the Hell is Matt? and Amazing Ben (Ben Thompson) and we decided to do some science. I shot Matt with it while he held a fluorescent tube and you can see it light up every time he gets zapped.

(p.s. a huge thank you to Staci Elaan for donating the gun to me.)

Far too much awesome in that video.  Comedy meets goofy dancing, meets Marvin the Martian Looney Toons.
