Title: Stick Online City (Stickopolis!)
Post by: Lucifer on September 15, 2010, 01:07:34 PM
Stick Online V2 was primarily outside, taking a step away from the cities of SOV1 into the wild. I think it would be awesome for SOV3 to incorporate both concepts, a giant city full of different enterable buildings, and a vast, always expanding world to explore. (I believe SOV1 had some areas outside the city, but you know what I mean.) Perhaps the city would be closer to the start of the world, after the initial "newbland" area. Players, after learning the basics of the game, would then find themselves entering the primary social center of the world. This is a basic idea which has most likely been suggested before, but here's where I want to expand on it.

The Casino idea being discussed got me thinking, there's tons of different things that could be incorporated into a thriving city. It doesn't just have to be a hat shop and a weapon shop, there could be so much more, and who would know what they want more than the SO players themselves? So here's a topic for you to suggest things that could be incorporated into a Stick Online city. Post whatever pops into your head, but be sure to explain your idea a little, not just list off random stuff, and also feel free to comment on existing ideas.

Here's a few basic ideas to start off, I'll brainstorm some more later.

Equipment Store(StickMart!)
The equipment store would be an all-purpose one-stop store for any of your needs and unnecessary hobbies. Unlike the simple SOV2 stall, this store would have several different sections for Hats, Weapons, and other misc items that might be implemented into SOV3.

Casino Building(The Shady Casino!)
The Casino Building, discussed here (http://www.stick-online.com/boards/index.php?topic=1392), would be an enjoyable hangout for Stick Online players, with many different kinds of slot machines, perhaps a few mini-games where you could challenge your friends, and many other ways to waste your fortune.

Stick City Arena
The Arena could be an exact replica of the Stick Online V1 Arena, providing some nostalgia for old members, and an interesting take on Arena fighting. I like the idea of many different types of Arenas, with different platform setups, providing different ways to win, and promoting different strategies at different arenas.

I definitely like the idea of a big town to explore, especially in a game that's got as much player interaction as SO does. I just don't have any ideas of what to fill it with.

There could be some kind of mini-game center where single and multiplayer mini games could be played. Could be like Stick Arcades.

Good thing you posted this, otherwise I was going to epic bump my own idea list for these.  :-[

Stick Boutique

A large step towards extreme customization of your stick character. You could buy expensive 'makeovers'(change your stick's color), alter facial features(eye shadow, blush, makeup, whatever), or get 'haircuts', giving your stick hair(that can be seen when you take a hat off) that boosts no stats, like Simple_Girl's wig in SO1. Perhaps the really expensive ones could slightly boost stats, kind of like a permanent stat boost except you can only have one at once.

Based off of Aqua's Shady Shop-
Black Market(Shady Shop!)

This could be hidden in the dark alleys of the city somewhere, to make it difficult for a newb to get to. The reason being, this shop specializes in stat resets, which are extremely expensive, and of no use to new players. Also to add to the background of it. I modified the Gold payments, but other than that, this is entirely Aqua's.
Quote from: Aqua
Single Stat Reset- 300,000G
Sets a single stat of your choice to 1, and gives you the appropriate stat points.
1st-Degree Stat Reset- 200,000G
Removes 5 stat points from all areas, and gives them to you. But if you had 3 int, it only gives you 2 int, and sets your int to 1. Same with other stats.
2nd-Degree Stat Reset-350,000G
Removes 15 stat points from all areas, and gives them to you. Same method with 1st Degree Stat Reset.
3rd-Degree Stat Reset-1,750,000G
Sets all stats to 1, and gives you the appropriate stat points.
The first 2 are somewhat affordable for high-level players to experiment with, but the last one is ridiculously expensive so you can't abuse it, and with SOv3's economy no doubt being better, it'd take longer to get it.

The other feature of this shop would be that every so often(it varies from player to player), they'd have an item or 2 up for sale, commonly things you couldn't find in the StickMart. However, they would be ridiculously expensive(125,000 for a Great Sword or so), and only worth it if you've been hunting for a long time and haven't gotten the item. The very, very top-level items could be here too(very rarely), but for 1,000,000 or so Gold. You have to wait about a week or so for the items to change(and they could even have items not found anywhere else, possibly).

Entirely Sainomi's idea-
Quest Headquarters

You'd go into this big building and handle various requests. You wouldn't be able to handle more than a single quest at a time. When you go back to it after completing the quest, you'd get whatever the reward was and a considerable amount of EXP. This would probably be smack-dab in the middle of Stickopolis.

Welding Shop
You could maybe get occasional item drops(like a metal shard or stone handle) that do nothing on their own(not that uncommon to drop, so as not to make weapons impossible to get in this fashion) but once you take them to the welder, pay some money, and combine them, you'd have a very rare, great weapon. The thing about this is that there could be a great number of customizable weapons with multiple parts, making fighting all the more interesting.

I'll probably post more things later, this is all for now.

Warehouse
A place where you can store items you want to keep but don't need all the time.

Bank
They give you money that you must pay back later in order to receive more. The amount of money you can borrow depends on your level.

Newb Academy
Place for new players to go to. There are many training rooms with weak monsters and there is a free stat reset station. However, this academy can only be accessed by players level 10 and under. PvP can't be turned on in here either, so it's like a safe training spot for newbies.

Trading Center
A place where you can drop items off for trade while you're away! Here is how it works. You place an item of yours on the stand that demands gold or another item. Someone can go up and trade items while you're away. You get the traded item when you come back to the center. A nice way to trade so you don't have to walk around yelling, "SELLING GREAT SWORD FOR 150K!"

Jail
A place where you can see a list of all the banned players. :D

Chat Station
Where you can chat privately with other players. A great place for meetings!

Clan House
Where you can start your own clan! You need to be a certain level to make a clan, though.

That would be a great idea, I talked a little about mini games in the Casino topic, an Arcade Building would be a great place to implement them.

Stick Boutique
It's been brought up before and I've always liked the idea of customization, but I'd prefer if we keep it simple, and try not to overcomplicated things by adding makeup and/or facial feature editing. Hairs, maybe tattoos/designs on the face, and skin colors could be viable, but only if extremely extremely expensive. I like the idea of only being able to see your hair when no hat is equipped, I remember having to sprite the hair for each hat was a large portion of the complaints on the idea, so that would bypass that problem.

Black Market(Shady Shop!)
A secret shop sounds fun, perhaps it would be behind the Shady Casino, a little side business the Shady Man runs ;). The concept of Stat Resets is something that requires an entire thread, haha, it's been debated several times. Something that stands out to me in your quotation of Aqua's idea is that the variety of stat resets are all rather conditional. What if you only wanted to remove a few stats you've realized were a mistake? You don't want to have to pay hundreds of thousands to remove a bunch of stats you want to keep. My opinion on Stat Resets would be, either it shouldn't be implemented, or it should only be one extremely expensive complete stat reset. I don't see the point in adding multiple options if money is going to end up being wasted.

Quest Headquarters
I haven't thought about Quests being implemented in SO for a long time now. Maybe instead of a building, in the center of the city would be a giant board filled with job posters. You press ctrl on the board and it brings up a list of the quests available, and like you suggested you can only accept one job at a time.

Ahhhh, crafting, always a good idea. Are you suggesting that the materials combined make rare items normally dropped by monsters, or completely different items? I think I would like the second idea more, perhaps you could disassemble items that are dropped normally into materials as well. IE, disassemble a Short Sword and an Inferno Sword, you're given a short blade and small handle, a flaming blade and large handle, you could combine the short handle and flaming blade and make an Inferno Short Sword. *shrug*, could go in many directions with crafting, hence why I like it so much.

I realize that it may be somewhat overcomplicated, but I see no reason in not adding many options. I did intend for them to be very expensive, something only the high-levels could afford to alter if they wanted to every so often.

Well, it was a suggestion to alter stat builds in different ways. I honestly don't see the problem with multiple ways to reset stats, it provides Gold-saving solutions for how much you really want to adjust them. You save 250,000 Gold between the 1st and 2nd-Degree Stat Reset. Some people may not be able to afford all or nothing, as it truly is only there if you're at the end of your rope with your current stats. Single Stat Reset also works nicely in favor of pure accounts.

I like what you suggested better, actually.  :P

I liked the latter better as well. Disassembly of normal items probably wouldn't work with everything(nor should it, as there'd be way too many item combinations), but, like you said, I'd like things like an Inferno Short Sword. However, I think that you should have to pay to disassemble weapons, so you can't abuse weapon altering to your advantage.

EDIT:

This would be a necessity for SO3. Slightly more inventory space, and storage. Good presentation.
Quote from: 11clock
Bank
They give you money that you must pay back later in order to receive more. The amount of money you can borrow depends on your level.
...And you completely forgot the main point of a bank?  :-\ To store money? I feel like you should be able to do that, and get some money based on how much you have save(IRL interest rates, or close). Other than that, I like it.
Quote from: 11clock

I really like this idea the most out of all the ones you suggested.

A nice way to trade so you don't have to walk around yelling, "SELLING GREAT SWORD FOR 150K!"
Again, necessity for SO3. Trading needs to be easy, and this would easily solve that dilemma of difficulty. Vindictus has something exactly like that.
Quote from: 11clock
Jail
A place where you can see a list of all the banned players. :D
Not needed. I realize it's for the lulz, but still. I guess it'd be a nice little distraction.
Quote from: 11clock
Chat Station
Where you can chat privately with other players. A great place for meetings!
This could solve the problem of private chatting in-game. I suggest there be multiple chat room setups, with a person hosting each room. You don't know the password to get into a room, you can't get in.
Quote from: 11clock
Clan House
Where you can start your own clan! You need to be a certain level to make a clan, though.
Again, this would make it easier to create clans, making Meiun's job easier. I like it. Maybe instead of a clan house, it could be a fraternity house or something?

You know, this thread looks like it could become a massive combination of several different suggestions. I think the basic point of the topic is fine. One central location, near to where newbs spawn, that has all of the random ideas/things that are implemented in SO3. The rest, what those things will be, is going to be entirely up to what Meiun decides to implement.

Certainly shops, places to purchase weapons, hats, and other items or consumables that will be available for purchase (versus only available via drops). A clan center where you go to initiate the creation of a clan, gather the required people/money (whatever the requirements will be in SO3.) Anything beyond that is unconfirmed and/or will just be a rehash of a previously suggested idea. I think the concept of putting any and/or all of those things into this city is relatively understood. Whatever actually gets implemented would have a presence in this citytropolis thing.

Of course, to expand on the core idea a bit, there should probably be many different cities spread throughout the entire SO world. Some smaller than others. But, the thought of having to run all the way back to this central city from wherever you might be would be very frustrating. You should never be all that far away from some city, town, outpost, that has at least some of the conveniences.

Almost all ideas are rehashes of previous ones. This isn't limited to SO ideas. What matters is the IMPROVEMENTS and alterations of those ideas to make them better.

In addition, I don't remember Meiun confirming the existence of a clan house in SOv3. (Shops will obviously be in.)

I had the exact same idea. I feel like there should be mounts or something of that nature to get around.

And that brings me to my next suggestion-

Vehicle Shop

A shop where you can buy mounts(they would not appear in your normal inventory, rather, they would appear in a key items inventory(where you would carry things relevant to quests, special items, things like that). Mounts are expensive, and they range from bikes to motorcycles to small cars. When using a mount, you cannot do anything else but move around(to clarify, you can't jump, attack, anything of the sort). If you have AGI, it increases the speed of the mount by an amount equivalent to your own normal speed. Starting up a mount requires a hefty stamina cost, maybe half or more of your bar. But once on it, you have free range. You can also trade in mounts for money here. You CAN be attacked while on a mount, by both other players and monsters.

EDIT: Alternatively, you can jump while on a mount, but it costs around 10 stam a jump to do so, and you can't crouch jump.

I think you missed my point a bit Mystery. My point was, all of these things that are being added to this topic would typically have each had their own separate topics, but now that we have this general concept of a city with a ton of stuff in it all of those ideas are being added here. Lucifer's base idea, that of having a city with all of these different shops and what not in it is just that. There's nothing to expand on. It encompasses any and all ideas that may or may not be added to SO3. The idea itself is to have all of those things in a centralized city. That's it. So we can all go and create suggestion topics, and this topic would encompass those suggestions as well. And in addition, any previous suggestions are included too.

Now if we want to make specific modifications to any previous idea, why not pull up that topic. Or if you can't find it, or it was from a previous forum, make a new one. I just don't see why it all needs to be included in this single topic. The only discussion that should happen here would be related to the core concept of the SO city (such as my mention of having other smaller cities throughout the SO world).

Quote from: Mystery on September 19, 2010, 02:21:33 PMIn addition, I don't remember Meiun confirming the existence of a clan house in SOv3. (Shops will obviously be in.)
I don't see why not. He's developing clans for SO2. Why wouldn't there be clans in SO3?

To clarify, and no offense to Lucifer, but I think this topic would be best used in discussing the core concept, benefits or downsides, to having major cities in the SO world, rather than discussing what specifically would be in it. It just seems like this topic will become a conglomeration of all shop/merchant/npc-like suggestions that could ever be or has ever been thought of.

Why not have it used for both? I'd rather have it all consolidated in this topic, rather than having a new topic for each and every building idea. I don't think there is any reason to be arguing over this, it'd just be so much more clean to have it all in one single topic.

Plus, Lucifer himself put up ideas for what would be in the city... this thread isn't just about the idea of major cities, it is also what would be in it. At least, I shouldn't think that would be a problem for that.

I completely agree with you Lingus. I didn't initially think of the idea orgy that would spring up in this topic, I was just inspiring conversation about what people would like to see in an SO city, as well as bring up the SOV1 concept of cities. Now that I think about it, that was pretty obviously inevitable, but I don't actually mind it. I enjoy adding to the activity of the suggestions forum, even if it's not going to go anywhere, sometimes it's fun to just brainstorm ideas.

Well, I guess, as a compromise, it would be fine to have people add a small paragraph describing some building or feature they would like to add to the city. If it's a previous suggestion, just make referrence to it. Anything that goes beyond that, or kicks off a larger discussion relating to one specific suggestion, should have a new topic.

Yeah, I definitely agree with that. I'm interested though in what would be the major downsides to having a centralized location with things like this.

Probably the fact that certain things in this central city may only BE in this central city, meaning if you need something from there, you must go allllllll the way back. Teleporting/mounts/whatever could remedy that. Of course, there should be small towns scattered across the SO world with shops and inns, minor conveniences.

I like the idea of a bank, but perhaps to give people incentive to keep their money in the bank there could be a possibility of losing money while you out in the wild, maybe if you die a monster could take your money or you could be robbed etc... also a penalty if you don't pay your loan back to the bank on time, like a team of bounty hunters come after you...

Prison of the Big and Bad
The place where you can pay gold to fight all the bosses in the game, from weakest to strongest. None of them will be able to drop items though. However, once you die or reach the end you will get rewards based on how far you got. The rewards consist of experience and craft items (if we will be able to craft armor and weapons). You can enter with a party of maximum of 4.

While I'm not really up for talking specifics just yet, I can say that SO V3 will have some more modern themed places than V2 ended up having. I had never really intended for V2 to all just be wilderness and small villages, we just hadn't really gotten to the bigger stuff yet. The game is not exactly set in past times or anything like that though. You can expect some more stuff like V1 in V3 for sure.

I had never really intended for V2 to all just be wilderness and small villages, we just hadn't really gotten to the bigger stuff yet. The game is not exactly set in past times or anything like that though. You can expect some more stuff like V1 in V3 for sure.
That sounds awesome. V1 was great.
I just hope it won't be like this:

god that would be amazing. Hahah, be so awesome if stick online turned out kinda like that.
