Arr.
Yes, the walking animation is copied from bandit. Obviously tried to mimic Stick Online Style again :P
The foil needs to be jiggling up and down when it's sheathed while the pirate is walking. Also, may I suggest an eyepatch?
I think you should have a blur on the attack part, and the sword move a bit with his legs, as well as a black line for a strap. But I also think you should make your own walking animation.
~Aqua
I like it, but I'd like to see the actual sheath that the sword would be in, considering it's very awkward for a stick figure with no clothes to hold anything, and without a sheath, it looks even more awkward. The sword looks a bit too static not moving when he's walking. Like Epic said, an eyepatch would be cool. Other than those, nice work.
The attack animation looks very unsmooth, but I like the idea. The only other problem I can pick with it is that he is wearing a captain hat.

The unsmooth part is on purpose. And captain hat, ehh... we'll just see what happens ;)
Actually, I like it. The fact that his sword isn't sheathed actually fits. Also, he could use a different hat than the pirate hat.

Why? Bandits also wear bandit masks. I like them pirates, only thing you could add is an eyepatch :P

Damn, nice sprites Cero. I really hope they make it in game ;). I wish I could at least play.
~Looperpuck
Nice. What could it drop other than pirate hats?
I would like to propose something.
What if, instead of a universal pirate sprite, you could make several and have each pirate randomly use one when they spawn? That would show some diversity and would be like how the pirates were in real life; they didn't have a uniform when they were a pirate, they couldn't afford one. They just picked up what they found or had and wore it. Each of the pirates would be the same though.
I like the red hats. You called them "Recruit hats" And that fits. It's not re-used so If he is going to use anything it will probably be that.

I actually really like that idea.
Now, make a ship's captain. Either use the pirate hat you have there, but then you'd have to not use that hat for the regular pirates, or you could make up a snazzy captain hat. He should have some additional things going on. A parrot, eye patch, peg leg, hook hand... some combination of those, maybe not all.
Hey I really like those pirates with red hat on their head. How about making them normal mobs, and make a pirate with a pirate hat we have now a boss?
They would drop their hats, and weapons like rapiers etc... But the snag is we already have the pirate hat, so, why not replacing the pirate hat we have now with something else? Why don't we bring a hat that was in SO1 back in it's place? Duck hat would be awesome, and players really wouldn't care they don't have a pirate hat anymore.
Also, power up the pirate hat, so people would actually have a use from the ship area. How about +6 STR +2 VIT +2 DEF? Why not having a new, powerful hat in this new area?

@ Croz, XD Awesome birds :D lol at the "bird on head".
Yeah my personal favorite is the first one.

Nice, pirates with parrots added :D
What if you start from scratch with the captain.. i know it would be difficult.. but look at the dark sage.. make it a tad larger than the other pirates and put an outfit on him..
i like the pirate with the red hat.. maybe, the pirate with the red hat could be a weaker version of the pirate (like a beginner pirate), while the other pirate with original pirate hat could be a stronger version.. (sorry if i dosnt make sense this keyboard is screwing up and i cant think straight lol)

I personally like this idea.. what if there are 2 pirate hat availible, one with the a parrot and one without
- the difference.. the one with the parrot gets up 2 INT while the one without gets up 2 vit (plus the 6 STR and 2 DEF to both of them)
this would then have 2 new hats availible
Damn Cero, you really beat me to the chase on this one. Lol, I had already started thinking of Ideas to create a Pirate but I was gonna ask for your help anyways, So I guess I should just post them here so we could possibly make a collaboration xD
So here is what I got so far, I blew it up so you could see some of the progression. The farthest to the left is the ideal size I was thinking of, just slightly larger than the normal pirate hat and stick figure, and I think the body should be a little huskier too.
Edit: I also think that there should be two types of Pirates at the spawn, perhaps one with a pirate hat and cutlass, and the other with a bandanna and hook. The main pirate ( the one with Cutlass and Pirate Hat) would be slightly larger/taller/faster than the rest.
2nd Edit: The image got re-sized when I posted it here, so it's a tad bit blurry when it comes to the smaller images so here is the direct link: http://img691.imageshack.us/img691/1121/pirateface.png

instead of making the pirate captains hat an edited version of our pirate hat, lets try something new. Captains have to have a better hat than the rest of their crew, so how about something like this.

That's so freakin' awesome, I love the way you used the Damascus Blade for the Pirate boss, I like the rest of the drop Ideas too. And @ Pat, yeah, I see what you meant, you did a good job at making the bandana looking more, cloth-like. The new bandana looks great.
Also, one of the pirates would have to be rarer than the other. Skeles to a DS. At that rate. Then we would have something to wait for on the boat.
im not great at drawing sprites, but i recon the weaker pirate should have a long, blue, and white stripped bandana.. If you can draw sprites well see what it looks like :o

Yeah, I think the face could still be used to. But if a parrot is to be added, we need to broaden up the shoulders. Sorta like these:
I also added sort of a Machete type weapon, I think that would be a little more fitting.

I'll throw my 2 cents in...
For the boss:1) Use the 3rd, the one with the face.
2) Move the parrot higher up on his shoulder.
3) The peg leg looks strange: Make the funneled portion of the peg leg smaller, to better fit his leg. Also, get rid of the 2 white looking pixels at the bottom, and give the peg leg a mild cylinder shading.
4) Make amends to the body so it doesn't look so awkward. As of current, I'd say that pirate has some mighty fine hooters. With a little bit of tweaking that shouldn't be too hard to fix.
5) For the red eye patch, get rid of that strange red triangle, and just make the patch itself larger.
6) This last one might be more personal preference, but I would darken the colors of the pirate hat. A dark brown would look better in my opinion.
For the Sailors hat:The second one looks perfect...don't use the gem....and you might want to make the cutlass go down more if that is standing animation.
For the Bandanna Crew Member:The Bandannas shape is wrong, and it looks 2d...could use some tweaking. Also, point the hook down if that is standing animation.

I'll take most of these into consideration, thanks for the advice :D. I've been struggling with 2-4 on the boss pirate, so If Cero can help me out there it would be nice :P. However, for the eye-patch, in my vision, it's not really the standard black eye-patch, it's sort of a makeshift one made out of some sort of handkerchief. That is why you have the knot to the left, and it is embroidered in gold. If you take another look at the blown up version maybe you can sorta see what I was aiming at.
Edit: Regarding the bandanna pirate, well that was more of a shot in the dark xD, I'll work more on it later. As for whether or not there in walking or standing animation, I'm not quite sure, those are Cero's. I just used to bodies to model for the hats and hook.
2nd Edit: Blunderbuss anyone? (Not really a suggesting just for Lol's)
You also need to add a standing sprite facing <<, since the eyepatch will change. They look great though.

Ah, well in that case I suggest you make the gold in the eye patch a darker shade of gold because right now it is so light it blends with the white of the stick figures face. Try that and see if it looks any better.

Yeah, I agree. The problem is he goes down for only one frame of the cycle.
Nice work, I have a few critics for it at this point if you don't mind...
The frame where he goes down 1 pixel is rather odd, as it's suppose to be the peak in which he rises; you are basically doing the exact opposite. If you are trying to make him limp, it would make much more sense to have frame 5 or/and 6. If not, there is actually no need for the 1 pixel decrease at all. His arms don't show much confedence (Almost femanine from the floppy arm movement).
Keep going, this is looking nifty.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure he's trying to make him limp. However, I may be wrong.
If he is going to limp he should at least have a peg leg.
If it's limping, then the part where the body sinks forward because of the weak leg is off. The timing is wrong. Normally, the limp happens when you're putting your weight onto the weaker leg, which can't support your body regularly, and causes that sink.

Kind off the topic of the walking, but if the pirate boss does have a hook, I think it should be weapon.
He should definitely have a peg leg. Regardless of "limp". Though a limp would work.
thats awesome.
you have bandits with bandit masks + daggers, now we could have pirates with sabres and pirate hat.
Then we have Bandit assassin with Bandit cover + spire dagger, now we could have captain with eye patch/captain hat and a sweet hook.
Everything could fit in perfectly. But regarding the bandit drops being speed focused, the pirate drops should be strength focused.
Sabre could be a stronger short sword with longer attack animation and the hook could be as big as the spire but with a longer attack animation and more damage.
Arrr!

Seifer you want to move this down 5 spots, just post once in the 5 topics right below this one.
He was talking about the topic anyway. Not a necro, just a bump.
I have nothing to say anymore.
Epic bump right 'ere but:
The pirate shit looks good tbh, it'd be nice to get that pirate ship in there, and then have it so that you enter the hull and fight them, it'd be the first indoor interior for SO2!
You'd obviously have to make the thing a lil bit giant, but whatever.
This could be a nice halloween 2010 implementation... it could be populated by these 'undead' pirates.
