Title: GoogleIO clips
Post by: Scotty on May 20, 2010, 11:13:07 PM
So I am a huge proponent of Google (as I'm sure I've made everyone well aware in the past), and they are really pushing out a lot of awesome features in the next year here.  For instance, while HTML5 won't become an officially recognized standard for many years to come by the W3C, Google is already making an effort to accommodate the fact that a vast majority of users are using HTML5 capable browsers.  For those who have yet to see an HTML5 web application, check this out:

That's all HTML5, CSS, and Javascript, no Flash (yep, you heard me).  I am somewhat torn on the whole "HTML5 will make Flash obsolete", but that is easily overshadowed by my immediate reaction of "HOLY !@#$ING S#&$!!!".  Being a software engineer, I immediately start to analyze how this is done, and it looks like a nightmare because all I've dealt with as of right now is HTML4, but to see this, I seriously get a boner!

Another cool thing Google is coming out with later this year is the Chrome Web Store.  They make a great point in the video.  It is much easier to find (good) apps on a mobile device now-a-days than it is to find good apps on the internet, and this is their solution:

https://chrome.google.com/webstore

For anyone who takes an interest in web development, look through their videos for the GoogleIO meeting they are having, you'll be amazed at some of the stuff they are coming up with!!

Wow, yea HTML5 looks great... but I'm actually more interested in Clicker.tv. That site looks awesome. TV on the web is almost to the point where you can cancel your cable and not worry about missing any shows. There's still some networks that don't put their shows up for free (most Syfy stuff is only on Amazon VOD). But I think soon they will recognize the benefit hopefully.

I hate Pirate Hookers (the name part), always thought they should be named One-legged Peggy.  What's your point?

I wonder what Steve Jobs thinks about HTML 5.

Jobs reportedly made the following observations about Adobe in general and Flash in particular:

They are lazy, Jobs says. They have all this potential to do interesting things but they just refuse to do it. They don?t do anything with the approaches that Apple is taking, like Carbon. Apple does not support Flash because it is so buggy, he says. Whenever a Mac crashes more often than not it?s because of Flash. No one will be using Flash, he says. The world is moving to HTML5.

If Google founded a country I would move to it. Naturally.
