Title: Alternatives to Flash
Post by: 11clock on October 07, 2010, 09:59:13 PM
We all know Flash costs a ton. How about we look for alternatives to Flash that are decent and cost either only a little or doesn't cost anything at all?

I know of one alternative: http://synfig.org/

As far as I know, there aren't any.  Well... That is if you don't want to go the FLEX route, which is "open source", but that's for actual application development.  That's one of the downsides to Flash.  As awesome as it is, it is a proprietary single source provider, which is in part why Apple ditched them for their mobile devices.  I agree that Flash in general, not just their development, but implementation, is a bitch sketchy, being that their 64-bit Linux support has been fallen short quite a bit, but that's what happens when you rule your own little world, and grow to be ridiculous in popularity.

EDIT: I've heard that adobe does offer some wicked education deals.  If you happen to work in an educational environment, you might be able to work a crack deal.

Yes. Were I to have the money, I could get the Master Collection for $1800, instead of $2600.
Edit: Price list (http://www.adobe.com/education/purchasing/education_pricing.html)
