Title: Official "SPAM" Thread(DISCLAIMER:Not actually official)
Post by: Yankyal on December 19, 2010, 10:51:48 PM
A mod said this was OK, so don't drop the righteous ban hammer on me.

I guess this thread is to post things that you don't deem worthy of creating a thread over, but want to say anyways.

For example: Emma Watson is a goddess and if I could do anything and succeed, it would be to own her and everything she's ever touched. I'm also fine with Zooey Deschanel. They're both so amazing that the first thing I do on every computer I come across is add their names to the SpellCheck dictionary. I carry a 200mb album of both of them around on a flash drive if I am going out. I have memorized the megaupload URLs of a ~500mb collection of pictures of each of them. NO, I do not obsess with them at all times. It's just something I do...ya know?

Also, I hate death metal with a passion. I am convinced no one actually likes it, but they listen to it so they can appear hardcore. Music taste is an opinion, and I'll respect that, except when it comes to death metal. Damn.

Just needed to get that off my chest guys. Your turn!

I've yet to like this kind of heavy metal scream-o type of stuff, maybe it's an acquired taste, I just don't have it.

Oh it's definitely an acquired taste, I don't question that.  I used to hate it, HATE. IT.  My team leader in Iraq was all into it, and it drove me bat-shit crazy having to listen to it.  Seriously, we had to install a DC->AC converter in our vehicle to power all the equipment we had to truck with us, and he figured that since we were hand delivered a powerful converter that wasn't even getting tapped hardly with our gear, we should install a crappy Indian home theater system in it, full surround sound and everything, just so he could blast his death metal.  I must've lost hearing every time we wrapped up a terrorist and he'd blast his victory song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CXxjW6qHFhY) which honestly scared the shit out of the locals when a song was actually heard through a 4-ton bucket of steel.

It grew on me by the end of the deployment, as I started to listen to a few bands (specifically In Flames (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DAAXK3Mzm2k)) where I started to pick up on a lot of the musical talent of the genre.  By the time I got back state-side and the girlfriend left me within 24 hours, this aggressive style of music was the shit!

Edit: If you want to see what death metal is without the screaming vocals, rather a screamer vocalist who exercises his god-like clean vocals, here's a good example to get you started: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DAAXK3Mzm2k (same guy that does clean vocals in my previous post)

@Scotty: I like me some Alexisonfire, Bullet For My Valentine and Escape The Fate. Other than that though not a huge screamo fan.

There are also a variety of different styles and blends of "metal"/death metal vocals, which really can sound quite different. There are a number of styles that I personally don't care for much at all, then some others that I absolutely love. I actually totally agree that there are a ton of Metal/Death Metal bands that are AWFUL, but generalizing a whole genre is a bit ignorant.

Oh, and "screamo" and metal are definitely not the same thing. At least not in many cases.

Edit: Oh, and Scott, did you ever get that song I sent you via facebook a while back featuring In Flames? Was a pretty sweet one, heres the link if your interested: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZGJrYPMkNI It's actually the band "Pendulum" that just happens to be featuring In Flames in this song. But as far as I could tell, it might as well be In Flames featuring Pendulum (vs the other way around) for this one.

Also, Yankyal, you may want to consider removing the word "official" from the topic name. Not really a big deal, but official sort of implies it was made by the website staff or something like that.

I did.  It was good.  I couldn't tell how much In Flames was integrated into the song, as the style is off quite a bit from their sound, and couldn't honestly pick out the guitarists or drummer as being In Flames, more or less just Anders on vocals.  Good piece though!

@Scotty: I like me some Alexisonfire, Bullet For My Valentine and Escape The Fate. Other than that though not a huge screamo fan.

I never caught on to those bands much (Bullet being the exception), as I have to echo what Meiun said, screamo is quite different than death metal.  Screamo is more or less a bastardization (if you could call it that) of emo, only including predominantly screams for vocals, as opposed to sobbing clean vocals (neither genres do I care much to listen to).  Death metal usually encompasses emphasis on aggression and intricate and often technical instrument playing.  If you want to split off into any one of the derivatives (melodic, black, etc...) each adds a bit more to those two founding concepts.  Melodic death metal often includes the use of sweeping keyboard effects (or at least mastered in), and although not always incorporated, use of a wide range of vocals, be it anything from growls to clean and everything in between.  Black (death) metal on the other hand predominantly uses an enormous amount of orchestrated parts, to include keyboards, and seemingly emphasizes more on theatrics and such with predominant screeching vocals as well as heavy bass driven tone.  A good example of Melodic Death Metal vs. Black Metal would be Soilwork (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rWuml6B0c4U) vs. Dimmu Borgir (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F9cqKafnUrk) respectively.

Holy shit. This was one of Pendulum's official songs? That's pretty awesome, got to admit.

@Scotty/Meiun: When I said screamo I had only just listened to the victory song that Scottie's team member played. That was the screamo I was referring too.

By (my) definition, I don't consider that a screamo song/band.  I would consider bands like Silverstein, It Dies Today, a lot of the American/Canadian mainstream bands with screaming vocals to be screamo (a majority of emo/punk bands originate from the US), or at least falling under the category of pseudo-screamo.  As far as Bloodsimple, I would classify them as just an American metal band.

Although it is sort of interesting in that a lot of the screamo bands apparently are coming out of Europe now... Some things that originate in America were meant to just gracefully die off...

I'm not huge on Death metal, and the few bands of this genre I do listen to, it's after a lot of careful consideration. With that said, In Flames is probably the best Death Metal band out there. No one holds a flame to them.

Not often I agree with Seifer, this is definitely one of those times!  I'll fully agree that I think they are likely the most well-known and highest regarded in their genre, likely due to being one of the biggest pioneers of the Melodic Death Metal genre (alongside "At The Gates", and "Dark Tranquility").

It's always short asian girls or...short white guys in there. They all try to be original and special, but in doing so they end up just like the rest of their skinny jean wearing, dyed fringe haired, "the cake is a lie" shirt wearing, silly friends. I may just be in a bad area though, but I hear so much shit about that place that I don't think location is a factor. I may just hate emo people and emo people may just tend to congregate at Hot Topic, but the merchandise in the store is also terrible. Have you heard about the recent trollface t-shirts? I may have an aneurysm if I come across someone wearing it in real life. It's "pre-packaged 'cool'", as maddox would put it.

I rarely see asian kids in there. But seeing as you don't shop there (therefore you are never actually in the store) I can see how you would make that mistake. And actually, I think the people that work in my neighborhood Hot Topic are some of the friendliest people. They look different, but they always seem way nicer than the Hollister employees... >_>

I've seen them get an influx of Adventure Time shirts in there, which I personally am more than pleased with, because Adventure Time is !@#$ing badass.

And yet I've ALSO seen them get an influx of meme shit, lots of it from 4chan, and that pisses me the !@#$ off, because it's just even MORE commercialization off of the internet. And of course douchebags are going to eat it right up and I'm going to have even more memes rammed down my throat where I would LEAST enjoy it: Away from the internet.

All in all, it's a love-hate thing I have going with Hot Topic. But for the most part they're a pretty big supplier in the t-shirts that I have based my style on, so yeah.

I was just trying to tell him that puppies are not cool. They can't do anything cool. I bet I could kick that puppy's ass. Why would anyone want such a weak animal?

If anything, he should get a parakeet. They have beaks to peck people with and I'm sure they could do some damage with their wings. Much better than a fat dog.

Dogs have been historically proven for a very high sense of loyalty and devotion not often seen in humans except among family and extremely close friends. When that loyalty and devotion is focused on their human masters, dogs have been well known to accomplish amazing feats, especially when said masters are in danger. No other animal exhibits such a uniquely high ability to bond with other creatures readily and well as dogs do. By historical fact, your statement that puppies and dogs can't do anything cool is wrong. Also, even a 'fat' dog can be motivated into action surprising for its physical condition. Can a parakeet do that? No.

Ummmm, puppies have teeth? People have been more seriously injured by dogs more than they have by birds. Your statement may be on topic, but it's retarded nonetheless.

Birds sit in a cage all day and squawk/chirp their brains out. There is nothing all that exciting about a bird either.

Also, for shits and giggles, I found this on the Lunia forums in an "Ask a GM anything" topic:
QuoteHi, a guy named eleczer0 told my sister who is now dead to go kill herself, and then after that started harrassing me ingame though i tried blocking him, he made new characters and insisted on harrassing me. If there is anything you can do it would be greatly appreciated.

Yes it's (technically) the same eleczero that played SO. (Apparently him and his brother shared an account).
And yes, pretty sure this dude is a fail troll. Even if it did happen, a GM couldn't do jack about it. lol.

Just leave the troll alone.  He's trying to stir the pot, and you're actually fueling his flames.

How many times as of late have you seen me privilege his arrogance and ignorance with a response, trolling or not?

This thread devolved into a shitfest where wannabe trolls like Forum and Yankyal are shoving their epeens down everybody's throats.

I suggest a swift lockage, please and thank you.
He wants his admin status back because hes use to being treated special LOLLOLOLO just ignore him

Will you please stop saying that about people.
I feel that it only makes you look worse in the eyes of the comminity when you clearly don't know what your talking about.

Also Puppies>Birds.

It appears you guys think puppies > birds. Well then, explain why my Pidgeotto just defeated an Arcanine? Birds are said to have evolved from dinosaurs you know. What have dogs evolved from? Even fatter ancestors probably.

No. No one is flaming one another, no one is insulting anyone,we're discussing birds vs. dogs. Just because your favorite animal is not in this discussion is no reason to be angry.

No.
Although I admit fat canines have done some interesting things, messengers birds do awesome things all the time. Birds HAVE to be loyal to actually fly messages back and forth without escaping to eat some worms or whatever birds do.

Just because they can go from one place to another, doesn't mean they're loyal, it just means they've been trained their whole life to do it. Regardless, parakeets are not commonly used as messenger birds, therefore, your point is moot.

Your face is moot. Parakeet was just a suggestion. Dogs have also been trained to do tasks, but people still consider them loyal. I have had several fights against birds, and have lost all of them. There's a reason Michael Vick abused dogs and not birds, because birds would have broken his spine and ruined his career.

You guys are really aiming for this topic to be locked aren't you?

At the rate you're going, it probably will be. Stop flaming each other -.-

Just because Snake takes a stab at you doesn't mean you have to use the "he just wants to be an admin again" comeback to everything. I used to be an admin. So what? I don't see you using that comeback on me.

@Yankyal: Pokemon is fake, come join us in the real world for awhile. Birds can't take out dogs, whereas dog can take down birds. (IRL, not your silly Pokemon fantasy world).
QuoteI have had several fights against birds, and have lost all of them.
Well you're still alive, clearly you didn't lose enough.

Incidentally, Yankyal has insisted to me on MSN that he really is not ever trolling.

In other words, no, he's not faking it, he really IS that stupid.
