I'd like to start a music topic that emphasizes talent. Despite what the title might imply, I am not stubborn enough to limit it to any one style of music. If it is something I, or anyone else doesn't care for, we simply overlook it and allow those who do appreciate the various types discuss.
What I am aiming for are live performances. Not videos or pictures with studio album songs dubbed over on youtube, or music videos that don't feature live music. If you can find live performances that have both live audio, live video, and you feel moved, motivated, inspired, awe-struck, or any other form of mind-alteration in an uplifting and positive way, please post 'em up.
Also, as to not overwhelm everyone, please be conservative in the quantity of videos you post in a single post. If you come in and dump your entire library worth of live performances in one topic, there's no room for discussing the music because it becomes too overwhelming. Maybe a single or two performances, with some cliff-notes for what it is that you find totally friggin kick-axe!
I'll kick it off with none other than Children of Bodom's - Follow The Reaper (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r4mvcfBwCNQ) (Some foul language, several F-Bombs).
What kills me about their entire performance this night (labeled Stockholm Knockout Live), is that front-man Alexi Laiho (distinguished by the primary vocals, white guitar, and... pink cast on his foot?). He broke his toe in a previous performance, and is on-stage, blasted off pain killers, and he still performs flawlessly as lead-guitarist and vocalist. I remember reading an article in Guitar World where he was ripping on Dream Theater's John Petrucci as being a mediocre sub-par guitarist. GW came back and said "Dude, why did you have to attack John like that?" His response was that of regret, expressing that he was in the wrong, and has lesser talent than John Petrucci. John's response was classy and politically spot-on. He responds back with something along the lines of "I can't be better than Alexi, that would make the best guitarist in the world!! That guy can play solo's spot-on drunk!"
EDIT: Also, consider this. I've already been approached by four separate people on this forum inquiring about the music I listen as a possible future interest. Show your best stuff, and sell it to people. Don't just type "METAL RULEZ" or something equally intangible, illegible, or otherwise stupid for whatever genre of music you my listen to. You never know who's going to be watching what you post, and if you care to make an impression, you would be wise to put some effort into spreading the word out in a fashion that actually attracts people to it.

This is Lamb of God performing Walk With Me In Hell at Download 2010.
Randy (The vocalist), inspires me mostly because I to am a vocalist of the same genre. I understand how hard it is to play a good show like that, and most importantly, have the crowed doing anything you want.

That's Beardyman, a beatboxer turned comedian. Basically, he uses looping technology to make amazing improvised songs, most of them original. If you don't feel like watching the entire hour show, you can just go check out some of his other routines on his channel.

I've yet to hear them perform live and not think to myself "That is aggression!!", yet for some reason, I've never actually listened to an album of theirs, maybe that's about to change!

I seriously got a good laugh out of that, I still can't comprehend on people are capable of doing that!
After seeing Lamb of God performing live, and seeing the front jumping up to the song, I am always reminded of In Flames' 2007 Wacken performance of "Only For The Weak" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4LJOYxVuIyw) (One eff bomb in the beginning before the song). During the chorus, either the camera man gets paid well for a reason, or the quality of the youtube lends to the misconception, but it appears as though almost every single person in the crowd all the way from the back to the front is jumping, and if any of you know anything about Wacken, the crowds there amount in the 10's of thousands every year. I'd love to go to Wacken one of these years, mostly so I can get away from America's "Too cool for school" crowds who'll just stand there and nod their heads in a quasi-headbang fashion, leaving the fun to the ninja-kids who flail their arms wildly in the crowd until the big bearded fat man comes up and kicks them out of annoyance.
I missed In Flames when they came to my town, they supported for Killswitch Engage, unfortunately I got into both bands around a month later. How I wish I payed attention to my mate asking me to go along xD

I got to see them 2 years ago for my birthday in LA when I lived in Cali. If there is one thing they have mastered in their near-two decades of existence, it is stage presence, and getting the crowd riled up!

I'm sure they will come back on the release of their new album, they have been about 7 times. Shame I got into metal so late D:
Blues, anyone?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7OdPtbyK16I has an old-school blues star with some slightly more modern musicians, although even they'd be considered classic rock now.
Also, John Lee Hooker was in the Blues Brothers, I believe it was just before they go to Aretha Franklin's restaurant and order the famous four fried chickens, a coke, and some dry toast.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DVzNFeL6diQ is pretty great overall (the actual song starts around 1:05 if you're not a fan of long mostly-improvised intros), but the ending with the "Grinning In Your Face" cover and epic solo is amazing.
Jack White may not be the greatest singer in music history, but he sure appreciates and plays good music. The original Son House "Death Letter Blues (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8jN5vqEyV7g)" and "Grinnin' in Your Face (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QPQjVZzxFAs)" aren't quite so... energetic, but are interesting and powerful old songs.
One of Sweden's most influential bands to the Melodic Death Metal genre, Dark Tranquillity, like In Flames, have mastered the art of stage presence and live performances. I absolutely love Dark Tranquillity, and consider them one of the best bands of the eras in which they've existed. An excellent song off their second to latest album "Fiction", "Misery's Crown" was performed in their show at Milan, Italy, and is a show case of their talent both as songwriters, stage performers, and awesome fans:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M2mqusovP_A
I love it when the girl sneaks up on stage with the Italian flag to kiss Mikael and runs off, followed by the stage dive (see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nkhv1MUV9yQ&feature=fvst to watch Mikael stage dive, all the while still singing, absolute bad-ass). Oh, and I do have to say, that whoever is on their crew, and can set up that kind of a stage for them to perform on, and the camera crew hired had better be paid well, these guys know how to put on a good show and make it look damn good on video!

Scotty there is a few problems about this... 1. its not heavy enough :P 2. I don't see any mosh pits... i mean full on moshing...
Either way i still enjoyed that song :D
EDIT: Here is a local band that only lasted a month but i still thought there first song was great.... I heard it when they performed... sounded great..Tonned of moshing xD

Ah, good old fashion Pantera!! Can never go wrong with Cowboys From Hell!
It's sad though, that Dimebag wasn't nearly as well known until after he was killed. It's always humbling to look back on it. Hell, even Eddie Van Halen buried his original '79 black and yellow Bumblebee (rusted strings and all) with Dimebag as tribute to him. I think my favorite Dimebag story that was told was how he was playing with Machinehead on tour and accidentally broke their guitarist's touring guitar. Dimebag gifted him his custom Dimebag Washburn as an act of forgiveness. Robb is still forbidden from playing with it live due to a contractual agreement, but he did manage to play it for the music video for Aesthetics Of Hate (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6RBP8_QSg-c), which was meant as a giant, sweating, throbby veins and all eff you to one of the publishers on Christian-conservative website The Iconoclast, after they published an article bashing Dimebag saying something along the lines of how good it was for God to kill him. THAT is inspirational on so many levels. THAT is respect and love for a lost legend!
Anyway, enough for one history lesson, I'll get off my pedestal now... \m/
I never looked much into their history or anything like that, but I want to know why Darrel was shot.... I mean wtf? Why go ruin one of the best and one of the most inspiring heavy metal bands.

From Wikipedia:
QuoteEarly theories of motive suggested that Gale might have turned to violence in response to the breakup of Pantera, or the public dispute between Abbott and Pantera singer Phil Anselmo, but these were later ruled out by investigators. Another theory was that Gale believed Abbott had stolen a song that he had written. In the book, A Vulgar Display Of Power, several of Gale's personal writings, given to the author by his mother, suggest that the gunman was not angry about Pantera's breakup or a belief that Pantera had "stolen songs;" instead, the documents suggest that Gale's paranoid schizophrenia caused delusions that the band could read his mind, and that they were "stealing" his thoughts and laughing at him.
In other words, we have no idea why the whack-job did it, and never will after Officer James D. Niggemeyer planted eight out of 9 pellets from a 12 gauge Remington 870 shotgun into Gale's face to free a hostage and put an end to the shooting that ultimately killed five and wounded seven others.

I'm curious to learn more about this, considering they are my favourite band of all time. I just bought the book off Amazon.

I'll draw outside the lines for minute and show a glimmer of open-minded taste towards music. I may have spoken of these two in the other topic, but I doubt I linked to live performance of them. This acoustic guitar duo go by their first names: Rodrigo y Gabriela. They hail from Mexico City, and are the most talented acoustic guitarists I think I've ever listened to. Seriously, bluegrass doesn't hold a candle in the wind to these two as far as raw talent goes. The great and really appreciative aspect towards acoustic guitar playing, or any instrument that doesn't involve more than a microphone for technology is that you hear every mistake clear as day. The only difference with these two is that there are none. If they ever come around your town, I HIGHLY recommend that you go pay them a visit. I saw them last year up in B-More, and it was one of the best concerts I've attended that didn't involve mosh-pitting or "Ninja Kids".

This is likely in reference to Gabriela, and I agree, she's ridiculous. The thing is that there is no percussion, no bass guitar, nothing. She covers down on the percussion parts while also performing the rhythm guitar parts. That's why you see her smacking the body of her guitar with her right hand while her left hand rests predominantly still on the neck of the guitar. Rodrigo on the other hand is the one that's right and left hands move ridiculously fast to the point where it's a wonder that he doesn't ignite into a friction-induced bonfire. When they perform live, he tends to throw in a few special effect like you may have heard half way through where he'll apply a Wah affect to his tone, but other than that, it is all raw talent that doesn't include any sort of electrical manipulation or distortion to the sound.
Here's them performing on David Letterman: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V5VFWA2YKdo
EDIT: I love how their talent alone can get any crowd member involved like that. I'd venture to guess every person in that crowd was involved in the clapping or cheering. Off sheer talent alone, to be able to insight such a reaction from the crowd is a worthy accomplishment.
EDIT 2: The other big difference you'll notice between the two is that Gabriela plays a classical acoustic while Rodrigo plays with steel strings. The main difference in this is that classical style typically involves not using a guitar pick (plastic piece to strum the strings, using fingers instead). It generates a much different tone, which when you have the two styles working in such harmony as these two do, you definitely see a true form of raw talent being expressed in ways few are privileged to experience.
Now I'm gonna step so far out of the box most are gonna question whether or not this is really Scotty posting this.
It's no mystery I am a fan of superior guitar playing. There are a select few whom I rate as the most talented guitarists of all time. Joe Satriani, Yngwie Malmsteen, Jimi Hendrix, John Petrucci to name a few. I could post examples from every one of the above that would leave any guitar fan speechless, but I'll concentrate on another guitarist for the sake of brevity, in the hopes that if readers are moved by him, they'll explore the rest (seriously, they're all Gods of their instruments). I'll focus on Steve Vai. This man reigns supreme in guitar legatos and never made them sound so fantastic. Case in point the following song:
Steve Vai - Lotus Feet (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6CfEaSmdtGU&ob=av2el)
Just watching him, you see concentration and passion. The facial expressions alone express nothing short of sheer love for the music. Every guitarist worth his weight knows Steve Vai and aspires to achieve that level of skill and passion for guitar playing. This song is a true testament to beautiful music. Love it, every second of it. I encourage users to go and youtube other songs that he's performed, but I will also link a few more here for those who take interest:

The Big Three covering the most revolutionary guitarist's song: "Voodoo Child" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_borQkUgZM)
These are a few live songs by one of my favorite bands, August Burns Red. I appreciate this band moreso for the instrumentals in their live shows, rather than the vocals. Unfortunately, the singer does not sound as good live. But nonetheless, I love this band. An it's crazy that all of them but the singer are teenagers. And yes they are a christian metal band if you can't tell from the lyrics, but that is not why I listen to them.
Back Burner Live (skip to 2:00 if you're impatient)

This one isn't exactly the band playing live, it is their drummer Matt Greiner playing his part (drums) of the song Thirty and Seven in studio along with the song. I know it's not live, but I take a lot of interest in the drum area of metal, and I think this video counts as talent footage.

Last but not least, on of my favorites, Meridian. This one is mostly instrumental, which I love.
