Pulled from Ars Technica. This has to be some of the smoothest and realistic animations I've seen in an FPS yet:

Wow, that looks awesome. I hope they keep the classic Battlefield base grabbing, too, though. :o Would be a shame to ditch that in favour of playing exactly the same as CoD... -_-

I'd be shocked if they ever deviated and took the approach of CoD. Battlefield's franchise has always been about grabbing bases, to become another CoD would be a shot in the foot, and 3 steps back for them.
I've always seen Battlefield games as much more team-oriented as well, which I love. My first experience with Bad Company 2 was amazing, because the squad based combat was really awesome - people actually worked together, we were strategizing over the mic, we were doing really well, and not a single one of us knew the other. I played for a few hours, and every game went like that. Team deathmatch in CoD isn't even really that - its just that there are some guys you don't need to shoot at who sometimes shoot over your shoulder and get your kill. But for the Battlefield games I've played (BF2142, Bad Company 2, and a little BF2), they've all been much more aligned with team play, so I hope that is retained.

From what I've read, the game won't be anything like CoD. Huge maps, lots of vehicles, massive teams. This is a true Battlefield game and they know what their fans want.

If you like teamplay orientated games, try out Project Reality, it's a BF2 mod bent on super-realism and teamwork is a necessity.

O_O This makes think about the new Unreal Engine that took three GeForce GTX 580 GPUs to run. Posting a topic about it now actually.
One thing I've always loved about Dice is their ability to make beautiful games that run well and scale nicely.

This looks sick, the campaign looks better then BF2, excited to see the multiplayer.
Sorry to double post, but in case nobody knows of this, if Battlefield gets 1 million likes on FaceBook they will reveal a 12 minute trailer for the game. -presses like button- Seriously I can't wait either... :) The multiplayer looks bad ass. Glad it comes out before MW3, that way I can save some money for the November games haha.
Who's getting excited?

My favorite things about the Battlefield games that always put it above any Call of Duty games was the destruction, sound, large-scale maps, and vehicles... this just shows that they know how to make a NEW game and not a rehash of the former, I'm veryyyy excited for this game.
"Unterdessen gab ein Entwickler von DICE bekannt, dass es auf der Gamescom eine neue Demo geben wird, die den Conquest Mode und Jets vorstellt." Qoute - Eurogamer
-> We'll see a new demo with Jets and the Conquest Mode on August 17th-21st at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany.
(Guess where I'll be from August 18th to 21st.. ;) - This will be legen.. wait for it.. .. DARY!! )
You won't be seeing it on Steam anytime soon, and it actually makes sense why! Not that I agree with any of it (http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2011/08/battlefield-3-not-coming-to-steam-ea-provides-good-reason.ars)

Ya know, I never got to much into fighter jets with previous versions, were they always as bad-ass looking in previous version of the Battlefield franchise? I see myself finally having good reason to get comfortable with fighter jets if they are as fun as they appear here.

Nothing comes to mind other than "Money well spent".
I would like to play that game.
I believe Battlefield 3 will be Bruce Lee and MW3 will be Chuck Norris. Chuck Norris is a lot of hype and cool, but Bruce Lee is infinitely superior.
I reserved it, and I cannot wait! I will live and breathe the cooperative multiplayer gameplay realistic luxuries that it offers. =D
Just sayin'.
Just pre-ordered the game after reading reviews that say it's the best multiplayer anywhere. The game looks pretty bad ass to say the least. Reviews also say that the singleplayer is good but not great, which I expected, because Dice is still new to true single player campaigns.
Yea, the campaign in BF2 wasn't anything special either, but it was pretty fun. The voice acting was pretty crap in that game. I also pre-ordered the game, can't wait to pick it up tomorrow :P

Yeah, luckily The BF series is all about the multiplayer, so I'm pumped. I'm hoping my computer can muster a decent enough FPS and still maintain some of the higher graphical settings because the game looks like an absolute beauty.
I'm picking it up tomorrow as well, unfortunately, the day right before all my Advanced Placement midterms. -_-
I'm so pumped, though, the only thing is that I need a PS3 headset, so I can actually communicate in the multiplayer objectives. As far as single player, I've never been too fond of single player campaigns, I didn't even finish the campaign of CoD: Black Ops, I just immersed myself in the multiplayer, which I assume I will do again.
Adjusting from CoD to Battlefield will be a bit challenging but I don't mind, I really look forward to it!
Just got done playing the PC version for a couple hours, and all I can say is wow. The singleplayer is very Call-of-duty like, which was to be expected, but it has a few too many button prompts for my liking. Honestly, I think they should've made the single player more sandbox oriented because they just can't compete in the scripted action sequence department. Apart from those minor gripes, the game is absolutely fantastic. The multiplayer is the best FPS entertainment I've ever had, and brought me back to those times playing 1942 into the wee hours of the night. The graphics are a huge improvement over Bad Company 2, and it still runs extremely slick and looks nice on the lower settings. Seriously, the game is amazing, and I can't wait to play more tomorrow. I encourage people to pick it up for PC so that we can form a squad of kick-assery.
I would totally get it for PC, but all I have at the time is a Netbook lol, so that won't happen anytime soon... I will probably get a good gaming PC for Christmas, but idk just yet. Going to go pick up my PS3 version in a couple of hours, siked.
Best game I had ever played. The multiplayer experience is really something different from any COD game. Bought it today. :)
got it today, trying to install it.
I've played through quite a bit of the singleplayer and I have to say they really stepped it up from BF2. They got rid of a lot of the corny dialogue and made it a more movie-like plot that reminded me of COD in some ways. The jet mission was freakin awesome(too bad you don't get to fly it, but still lots of fun) and I had a lot of fun with the tanks. I'm not even done with the game yet, plan on finishing it today. It jumps around the story much like COD, which isn't really a bad thing, but can confuse you at times if you don't follow closely. The one thing that really annoys me about this game is that you can't cook grenades, thats really the only bad thing I have come across on the game, but other then that, great game definitely recommend it.
Ordered a GTX 560 and a new power supply to run it, should hopefully be here in a few days. Might join you guys if I can scramble together the cash. (assuming I don't make my computer explode putting it in)
i hope they improve the performance of this new game because it doesnt run all that well on my system and i could run battlefield 2 twice as good as this one at about the same settings.

LOL! Yeah Battlefield 2 is over 6 years old now, haha. I think the game performs decently well, although they could have done a better job at optimizing it. unfortunately, it's uncommon for developers to spend the extra time optimizing PC games, apart from Valve and Blizzard, although Dice is pretty good at it compared to other developers *cough* ID *cough*.

Ah... Also worth noting, this is using a completely different engine (Frostbite 2 I believe), which I think is for the better.

BC2 and BF3 use the same engine, unless you were referring to BF2.
um bad company 2 uses frost bite ver 1.5 and battlefield 3 uses ver 2 not exactly the same. atleast according to wiki

Well actually they are the same engine, but Frostbite gets upgraded over time. It's like saying Crysis 1 and 2 use different engines, or Left for Dead 1 and 2 use different engines. Just because upgrades are made to source or Cryengine, doesn't mean they aren't using the same underlying structure.
really thinking im gona have to upgrade my gpu inorder to play this game right :'( well my radeon has been a good card for a long time but finally met its match.
Anyone else find it extremely hard to get kills in the jets? It's hard enough to learn how to fly it, then you have a machine gun that can't hit worth a $#!* while you're chasing down another jet, or trying to get low enough to kill land vehicles without blowing yourself up...

I've been hearing that complaint a lot. I didn't notice it myself, since I assumed it was because I suck at flying, but people on the forums would definitely agree. I did notice though, that unlike bad company 2, Battlefield 2, 1942, and 2142, ground troops really don't have to worry too much about air support. In any previous battlefield, if I heard something with wings coming in, I knew I had very little time to get the hell behind some cover. In BF3, I pretty much ignore flying aircraft like heli's and planes, unless I feel like shooting them down.
They should at least start you out with a weak missile to make it more fun, and to make it a bit easier to earn the unlocks.

Yeah I agree. They should also make the missile's you do get a little stronger, and maybe give jets some more life. I want to actually fear jets, rather than scoff at their presence.
On a few of the maps i played yesterday, you couldn't get in another jet, because the second you did, the same guy would fly back and gun the hell out of it, I'm sure he could gun troops too. But it seems there a very few who are good with the jets.
Whenever I play I only get shot down by stingers, because hardly anyone has unlocked the missiles I think lol.
Also yesterday when I was taking off on the air craft carrier, my teammate wouldn't go he was on the jet in front of me, I turned on the afterburner and knocked him off the ship lmao.
My only complaint about the game so far is mortars. They pretty much rape in maps with paths like Grand Bazaar. Too OP imo. Some guy had 32/0 from mortaring all through out the game. Was really annoying. >:(
