Title: Game/Computer Help
Post by: crozier on July 20, 2011, 12:40:56 PM
Ok, so I got Steam 2 months ago. Got an account with a couple games, and just recently bought Fallout NV. And after buying and downloading it, I have received an error, that I get right after pressing Play.

After clicking play it opens 2 windows (an unclickable black window and this:)
Fallout

Failed to initialize renderer.
Hardware T&L required but not supported by Adapter.

Apon doing some research, earlier today, I have found that (I think) I may need a new graphics card or update my driver, or something, and I need to download some stuff. I am in no way, a compter whiz, so I don't honestly know what to do next.

So heres a little info on my computer.
Computer: Windows Vista Home Prenium
Driver Provider: Intel Corporation
Driver Date: 2/11/2008
Driver Version: 7.14.10.1437
(If theres any crucial info here that I need to jott down, then just tell me where to find it :P)

So... Question #1.
Has anyone who has seen this problem have an easy fix for this?

Question #2
Next up is, do I have to download anything specifically in order to play?

Theres a link here to the exact same problem, that some other guy had here.

I read it a few times and it helped me undersand what needs the fixin'. But doesn't really tell me if I need to fix my personal computer.
If anyone can give me a couple pointers as to what I need to do, much appreciated!

Contact steam support, when you email them, attach a copy of your dxdiag info by going to run->dxdiag->save all information, and saving it to a file, then attaching it when you submit a trouble ticket, should help them help you.

Go to Control Panel>Hardware and Sound>Device Manager.  Press the + next to Display Adapters and tell me what it displays under there.

Well, that would answer the question.  You have an Intel graphics card.  That's why it doesn't work. :/

Only solution is to purchase a better graphics card, alas.

If you're using a laptop, good luck with trying to upgrade it. Most of them don't even come with removable parts.
