I got to wondering today what you guys all do for a living, or plan on doing, or what you're going to college for. I plan on going to college and learning computer programming so I can create websites and fix computers, and hopefully someday work from home. What about you guys?
I work for CSC (Computer Science Corporation) doing web development for the government as a contractor. Fun stuff, frustrating as Hell someti... Almost all the time, and it pays real well, so I can't complain.
If you want to get into entrepreneurship doing web development from home, you better find a niche and cling to it. There's no way you'll ever get to learn everything, so pick up a few popular topics, and go for it. If you want my opinion on something that will guarantee your job security, that would be Javascript (arguably one of, if not the most important language of our era, or at least the web). Bare in mind, the pay may not be the greatest since you'll be relying on having a steady amount of clients. There are plenty of companies out there though (I can think of two that I personally know of off the top of my head) where developers work from home, so the possibilities are out there if you still want to work for a company, and still work at home.
Special Weapons Maintenance for the USAF. Probably gonna do my 20 and retire. I want to get my degree while I am here to but I have yet to decide what kind of classes I want to take.
i stack isles with cerial at publix. I tried to be a bagger but i kept putting heavy stuff on bread and eggs :-\
I'm a sandwich artist.
I'm currently pursuing a major in pure mathematics at the university of waterloo, I'll likely tack on a major in mathematical finance with a minor in CompSci for fun. I plan on doing graduate work in pure math, preferably analysis, and if not that, then a quant finance job would be nice.
My dream job is to get a degree in business and open my own cigar shop.
More then likely I'll get a degree in business and end up working in a dead end job the rest of my life, going no where and accomplishing nothing.

I'm a better one. ;D
I just finished my Liberal Arts degree, but still not entirely sure what to major in... I've considered everything from photographer to cosmetologist to helicopter pilot.
Basically I just don't want to sit in a cubicle all day every day for the rest of my life. I wouldn't mind it being part of my career, just not an every day part... x.x
I'm going to Thompson Rivers University for my Bachelor of Arts for a counselling position. I currently work at The Real Canadian Superstore though.
well lets see i work at a walmart as a cartpusher, although i do alot more then pushing carts. like retrieving electric carts, carry in, and carry out, stocking utility room, trash gathering off the lot, emptying recycling bins, or anything else my bosses want me to do. pretty sure i wont be going to college and not sure what else ill do although im getting sick of walmart in general. maybe go work at a movie theater or something.
venuse you are the kind of man i strive to be, !@#$ college, !@#$ the world, work at walmart.
I'm a High School Student for now, finishing up the half of a class I need as a requirement for graduation. I plan on taking a year off to get into the work force temporarily so I can pick up all the info I can before I have to actually deal with that stuff all year round every year. And after the year of work is over, Ill go to community college working part time, and get my general education while deciding if I want to go into Psychiatrics or Politics. Both interest me :3
i'm a sophmore in high school and unemployed :P

Same here.
I graduated high school in '09 and still don't know what I'm going to do. I was supposed to join the military, either air force or navy, but to be honest I'm worried about getting stuck in a shitty job. I feel like my parents just want me to join to get me out of their house, and they act like I can make a decision over night that will impact the rest of my life. What I really want to do is become an electrician or something and not even pursue a career in the military. So at this point, I'm not working right now, have applied to many places, and haven't heard back from any. Maybe I will end up joining the service because right now the economy sucks ass.

Assuming that's the US military, I hear they've acquired quite a waiting list since I was in. Part of that whole drawing back and cutting funding. Regardless, there are a metric butt ton of jobs in the military that relate to electrician work. You get paid to learn it, 4+ years of experience doing it, benefits that can't be beat, and a heck of a resume when you get out. From a veteran to someone who's on the fence, I'd highly recommend it. Look at me, no college education, everything is self taught, and because of the military (granted that I acquired a few "bonus" perks while in) as well as the fact that I worked my ass off while I was in to make sure my self taught education was actually worth something, I'm making six figures.

Yea I've heard about the whole waiting list thing on the news. My dad is currently working with a company that has an electrical division. I could work at his company and go to an electrician's school for 3 years and get a license which guarantees $80k/year. I'm not sure if I want to go this route or through the military at the moment. Basically all of my family is pushing me towards the military, and I think I will most likely end up enlisting because it seems the most secure option.
I currently work at a local music store after school. (I'm a high school sophomore) I'm already part of a program that lets me take a few college classes a semester late at night which is a good head start. I plan on having Computer science-IT as my major with a minor in business.
I'm currently a high school sophomore.. I'm a deckhand on a commercial fishing boat in alaska in the summer/ when i can take time off school during the big openings. Also, I currently teach swim lessons at swim america during the school year.

I'm curious, what's preventing you(other than a degree) from pursuing graphical art design? You've got an incredible talent for it, I enjoy seeing your work, and I don't like seeing things like that left unused.
I currently work in the meat department of our local grocery store. Been doing that for 3 years. Met my girlfriend on my 3 year anniversary working actually. I'm going to college right now, and before this semester, I was planning on going into Nuclear Engineering, but I'm taking a hardware/OS class and a networking class. I don't know what I want to do exactly anymore, but I really enjoy working on and with computers. So I think it's my calling.
