Its pretty far out from desert, but still accessible. You have to look at the ocean closely, finding stepping stones to this ship.

Does anyone know what the "greAter purpose" for this is? An island? Pirates that invade the desert?

You could put bandits on it and call them pirates.

NO WAY! I never thought Meiun would add a new area to SO2.

No enemies though?

Post by: JninjaJ on December 29, 2009, 08:01:02 AM
its quite good for pvp but i would rather have some pirate enemies and a captain as a boss or something like that
Title: Re: update
Post by: CherryPie on December 29, 2009, 09:19:59 AM
Ok, Meiun never releases halfly done stuff. So this area is finished.
Could be either a place for spawn parties, or a place for team pvp's (clan system, muuch? What's with the newspaper guy? ;))
What's bothering me is that someone hammered me when I was on fabi and I flew ways to the right, there was water, water and, guess what(?). Yeah, more water. But why isn't there an invisible wand, like it was before?
Isn't it just unused memory if you place such a huge unused area after the boat?
So what, there's still more to come? D:

Go Jake, the pandora jungle is just right ahead of us! :D

"(clan system, muuch? What's with the newspaper guy? Wink)"

I mean he could. But i think he is really there to be a kick back for stick online one. He finally got tired of stick online one and moved to two. :P

Post by: foG on December 29, 2009, 09:45:02 AM
Made me wonder as well. It would fit so well. In the update page when Meiun added the shady guy he said 'check back for future updates'. Now there is this huge ship with no mobs on it and as cherry said, meiun wouldn't release undone stuff. So it could be used as wars area, like one clan vs another. So now the only thing is how to get clans. Bingo! The shady guy used as npc :D

But how do you know if the ship is really just a party place?

Although Meiun never releases things less than 100% complete, that doesn't mean he can't be planning some sort of special event for us. Just because the area is fully done doesn't mean that there's no more things to come for the ship.
Title: Re: update
Post by: foG on December 29, 2009, 12:08:02 PM
That was just something I came up with and shared my thoughts. I have absolutely no clue what the ships's real purpose is, this just made most sense to me.
Title: Re: update
Post by: Lingus on December 29, 2009, 12:15:50 PM
Are you guys joking about Meiun not releasing something until it is 100% complete? In my opinion, not to sound harsh because I don't mean it to be, but that's all SO is about. Release in stages. Nothing is ever complete. There are some items that have been released and then gone back to update them. The clan system is a huge example of an incomplete feature.

With that said, it may well just be an added area to go and hang out... but I don't think it is. I think it's possible there will be extra stuff added later. Who knows?
Title: Re: update
Post by: Ceroblitz on December 29, 2009, 12:19:07 PM
Of course, theres the big space behind the ship. I questioned Jake about this, and he answered that me made that part on purpose. That means that theres definitely more things coming.
Title: Re: update
Post by: krele on December 29, 2009, 12:20:46 PM
How do you people mean "undone" stuff? He released a new place, so what makes you think he won't update it with monsters? How about desert, or better yet, how about noobland? Noobland existed since the first SO2 version, and just few days ago meiun added a new boss to spawn there. So, thinking that Jake worked his ass up on this awesome area, just for it to be a chilling place is sorta dumb.

Nothing is done yet, no area is finished if it's based upon what you say here. He can always update the new area with stuff we didn't see before. Would that mean "Finishing" the area? No.

I think there will be pirates here... We all know there already is a pirate hat, so why not making a monster that drops one? Also what about, adding mini cannons, pirate guns (YEAH I SAID IT), rapiers and other shit that belong to pirates? SO2 is if you ask me is far from done.

My point exactly, just your grammar is far better than mine so people may not actually understand what I talk about...

I completely agree with you, this area is most definitely not just for hanging out, I'm certain Jake wouldn't have took all the time to make this ship just to  sit around and pvp on it, plus he already said it will serve a greater purpose. And pirates would be epic :P. I'm guessing there will be an island after the ship, it would just fit in so perfectly.

Would meiun really pay attention about releasing an update like this if SO3 was nearly complete? He probably added this as a side project, and why not do so again?

I'm only saying that perhaps not getting too carried away from this update would be best. Jake can continue all he wants with creating these backgrounds and Meiun can also keep adding them in, but to expect another island/jungle from this would be a little to much, wouldn't it? I mean, if they wanted to they can go ahead and do so, I'm certainly not going to stop them (as if I could, anyways).

SO3's progress is irrelevent with your reply.

Cool update, by the way. Must be interesting to discover a whole new area after such an exstensive amount of time.  :)

They're laying right out in the open while the game is running.

Edit- With GM8 .png support, those could probably be changed to .png to save a lot of file space.

I have no idea why game maker would rasterize png when its already a bitmapped image format.

Ill say other than decompress it i cant think of any reason why it would take longer. Gm is doing something with them.

Rasterizing them to bitmaps so it can save it in memory... Even surfaces are bitmaps in game maker...

Easiest would be saying it converts png to bmp. Just take a look at the contents of the help file...

Rasterizing is the process of changing vectors into bitmaps. png is already a bitmap to start with. If you take a bmp and place it in a zip file you got yourself was is basically a png.

Also i have no idea what your looking at in the help file. I did look and i did not find what your talking about.

Quote from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portable_Network_GraphicsPortable Network Graphics (PNG) is a bitmapped image format that employs lossless data compression.

Quote from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rasterisation
Rasterization or Rasterisation is the task of taking an image described in a vector graphics format (shapes) and converting it into a raster image (pixels or dots) for output on a video display or printer, or for storage in a bitmap file format.

Chose a wrong word, my bad. It needs to include the texture in the graphics memory. The texture can only be in BMP format.

the thing with the legs extending from its body was an idea i had a long time ago after seeing a under sea special on tv that was talking about snails. some snails use an expendable harpoon like arm that has a venomous tooth at the end. so i thought simply lets combined that and the turtle creature from the mario brothers games and make a new monster out of it :P

I'm not sure what your referring to. But independent to the operating system you will always get a bmp file in the extrated location in the temp folder ware stick online places the data. If that's what your talking about. If not I'm sorry my bad.
