Title: Stick - Online simulator [updated to v.06]
Post by: HeroicHero on January 03, 2010, 10:14:47 PM
I'm HeroicHero.
I have never played Stick Online 1 or 2 but I lurk around these forums looking at post, pictures, etc. I think Stick Online is awesome! I'm currently waiting for SO3.

Anyways, I have scripted a flash version of Stick - Online. All though the simulator is not entirely visually accurate (as I don't have much access to images), I would like to integrate all the cool ideas that you guys have come up with and add them in here (ie: perhaps vehicles, skills, monsters etc). Try not to make them too complex as I'm some-what of a beginner at flash. I will try to update it as fast possible (if you don't know, scripting is adobe flash takes some time).

Sprites by:
Meuin, Ceroblitz, some by me

Here is the link to the game:
http://jkandrew.deviantart.com/art/Stick-Online-Simulator-149134263
A = Attack
UP = Jump
Left Right arrows = Move
Down Arrow = Enter doors

---V0.06---
-Added pets system (If you could provide a sprite sheet with movement sprites (wings flapping), attacking, etc, I will add it in)
-Quest Headquarters

...why?

Err, isn't this against the rules? You're using sprites without permission...

Yay for fake Stick online! /sarcasm. Yeah...why did you make this exactly?

To simulate ideas and put them into action. hmmm... I guess I'll just delete it.

As long as you ask people before you do it, I see nothing wrong with this. Actually I think it's rather awesome, in response to those asking why, wouldn't you like to see your ideas in action? To see whether or not they would Actually fit into the game? You can never really know if your idea is complete crap unless you can actually see it in action, and if this person is willing to go through the trouble to integrate your sprites into a flash representation, why not?

Anyways, I'd love to see some more of Cero's sprites in there, be sure to ask him!

P.S. d00d, and anyone else bitching about stolen sprites, honestly it's just the BBB, the shop, and the character. He isn't making his own game. That's like saying an information website like http://www.jesusland.tk/ is stealing sprites. (My opinion, of course.)

P.P.S. Welcome to the forums Hero.

Oh get that dick out of your ass. Obviously he should have asked them Before making it, but theres no harm done at all. But for the sake of appeasing the assholes of the community, remove the link for now, go ask Meiun and Ceroblitz, done deal.

Or heck just take out the shop, turn the BBB purple, and make the gold little peices of moldy crap, walah, don't even need to ask Meiun.

Hm, this is a little interesting.. You can do aerial attacks if you jump and attack. O:

Okay, I'll ask Meiun and CeroBlitz for their approval. I'll remove their sprites immediately if they don't approve.

You should of asked for permission before using their sprites, but I like this simulator. Now we can see if our ideas would really work with the game!

Forgive me if I'm wrong on this, but a copyright and patent are two different things. Stick Online is an expressive medium owned by Meiun, therefore he has basic copyrights over it.

"Copyright applies to any expressible form of an idea or information that is substantive and discrete and fixed in a medium." - Wikipedia

There's no need for a patent.

I asked Meiun and he said he was okay with it, as long as I make it clear that it's a fan project and that the graphics do not belong to me.

Either way, I love that animation Cero has, and it looks awesome in there. I  hope you continue this. :)

My point is, Stick Online has not been registered and does not show up in the public catalog under the copyright office (I just checked).  Yes, someone stealing his original works of art is illegal.  Now the catchy part is, what is going to happen if they do.  He could send a Cease and Desist letter insisting them to stop, and even pay for damages, but being that he isn't registered, they could easily turn that around on him, register their work, and claim he is the true infringer.  He cannot sue for monetary gain and have the court pay him for damages since he is not registered.  He COULD try to sue them if the cease and desist letter has no effect, but at most, that will just shut down the operation.

Case in point, if someone was to go and steal any of this work right now, the biggest thing Meiun could do is demand them to stop and pay money.  Whether or not they do, well that's up to them.  At the very most, at a high cost for Meiun, he could have the court shut them down (if they are in America, if not, it gets REALLY hairy), since his not registered, and has not payed the fees.

I don't see any problems with this. He didn't intend on claiming the sprites as his own, nor did he have any intention to keep the project from Stick Online's knowledge. Hero infact gave it to us, as a way to make our ideas possible.

Anyway, on topic. The BBB is moving too slowly.
Title: Re: Stick - Online simulator.

Changed the BBB speed, but I dunno what his speed is exactly.

Anyone have any ideas that I should add into the game?

Attack is S, A is jump, down is duck (for higher jump). I think you should add an inventory for items people suggest, screenshots of all these can be found in the Media forum.

I'm sure, since ceroblitz made his sprites with some sort of GIF animator, he mostly likely has sprite sheets that you could use if he gives you permission. Also, be sure to give him credit in game, I'm not sure if its there or just on the the forum.

Also, I can activate your account for you if you want me to. I was planning on donating more anyways.

Sure, but don't expect it for a few days. I need to get the $5 in, and then I need to have you message Meiun with username and password so I don't know what it is. I'll send you a message when I need you to do something like that.

I believe Meiun would be able to prove his ownership based on date. Since his files would be older than anyone elses, it would stand up. I believe that is how it works. At least I know that is how it works with music. Once you record it, it becomes copyright. If you can prove the date you recorded it, you have enough proof against anyone claiming it is their original work.

Pfft...you all really need to get the sand out of your vaginas...this kid is clearly maturer than most we have been getting and puts some effort into his works...He obviously had no intention of stealing...Christ some of you just act like you were born just today sometimes. Anyways, it's kinda neat. Nothing too special, but I like how fluid the animation looks and the fact you can attack in mid air is pretty neat and looks in-place aswell. Nice work.

I agree that Cero's animations are smooth, but they don't fit in with Stick Online v2's animation style.

I see. What if you go into some of the topics in the suggestion section and ask the person if you could add their sprites to the simulator. I believe Cero and Pwnage both have topics with a bunch of item sprites in them. It would benefit them since they could see what their sprites look like in context.

All you need now is ducking, kicking, punching, hats and more weapons and you have a done simulator. :P

When you duck down, You can still move around while being in duck mode and if your still moving around in duck mode and swing your IS Then it goes buggy and doesn't move till you swing your IS properly. You should fix that:)

oh wow, this actually plays smoothier than coded with gamemaker.
I think SO gameplay should be coded in flash & the backend engine + connecting of hosts should be done by a j2se.

edit:
before anyone asks. Yes you can embed flash objects in java based application without problems. (e.g. Adobe flash islands(Had to do that for my job once))

5 pages into this topic i still fail to see how this has anything to do with Ideas & Suggestions for stick online. Shouldn't this be off topic or Media? I know you want to simulate your ideas in game but i don't think this is an accurate model. Its more like your making stick offline.

I'm just replicating Sainomi idea of the Quest HQ and someone's idea of pets (not sure who's, but I saw it around here). They're ideas and I'm just presenting them in a different form, so why can't it belong in the Ideas & Suggestions section? And I would never make a stick offline because this little simulator probably wouldn't hold anyone's attention for over 2 minutes.

It's accurate enough. Besides, Stick Online 3 isn't going to look exactly like #2, so why does he even have to fit a model at all? Just think of it as a visual example, instead of someone writing down a suggestion.

I meant changing them from text to flash. I know I can't make it very the simulator very accurate to S02 (both visually and in-code), because I'm kinda inexperienced, but I'm trying my best to do so. If there aren't any users that want me to continue this, I'll simply stop doing doing it.

I fail to see how this is accurate enough to supasses anything that some one can imagine.

And lastly the model its self is not a suggestion but just a tool to test and the meaning of this forum section is to make ideas for the game and not the tools to simulate the game. I don't mide if some one testes an idea in it then posts a topic about it. Thats what its for.

I will shut up now.

If you all fell that away about this then its like posting a topic about Ideas & Suggestions in the forum section of Ideas & Suggestions. I really feel this should be more of a Media thing. This topic keeps popling up and bumping ideas down. which is why I'm even posting.

Quoteits both makeing ideas and testings the ideas
for the sim, not the game.  after testing should be posted here with more detail.

Hmm... Perhaps it should. I'd hate to be a menace. Can someone move this thread to media?

There was a video of SOv3 on Youtube , how the sprites will look , if they really will look like this , then simulator will just remind us of the good old days in v2. Keep up the good work , maybe one or two more monsters won't hurt if you have some free time.

Whoa whoa whoa. What? Demo of SO3? No way.

The only released sneakpeak of SO3 to us was a concept art, and a background tile sheet to the best of my knowledge.

If you are refering to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NnyX0ZpZcTE
Then no, that was a Stick man made by Teej and everyone assumed it would be the new stick so they started making a bunch of hats for it.

Updated it. The pet has a very simple AI. When you attack, it will attck. If you provided me a sprite sheet, I will add it in.

Great work with the Quest Headquarters, but after you are finished with the quest and you go outside, your gold goes back to 0.

How was that even necessary? Seems like he keeps doing updates ever once in a while. It's only been about a week since his last update. And either way, why does it matter?
