Hey everybody, long time no see, I was there way back in stick-online like 2006 or 2007 and only a played a bit after it became payed for, but I was wondering, an idea that I would find incredibly useful and I would always be using it, a stick-online iPhone/iTouch App? What do you think? If you still want it to be payed for you can make the app cost money.
Awesome idea in theory, would be a fun game to put on the iPhone, due to its relative simplicity. However, it is impossible as there is no way to convert GM over to Macs (until the Mac version of GM is released) and the fact that the iPhone OS uses a completely different language as well that wouldn't work. Basically, unless SO is rewritten in a completely different language, one that is cross-platform, then I don't forsee this happening anytime soon. Otherwise, yeah, it'd be cool.
Bah! I wouldn't want all those stuckup Mac bastards playing anyways.

Well he was talking to you.
Lulz @ Clocky.
I sort of like the idea of playing S.O. on the go, but I'm not quite sure how Stick Online would be played with only a touch screen. Unless Apple comes out with some sort of bluetooth joystick or d-pad attatchment... or something.

or stickfigure mind control.
Would be hard as hell to do for one. Two, the controls would be so crippled on an Itouch. Three, Online is an issue.
First off, your title reads "Iphone (OS) App?", when it should be "Iphone (SO) App?".
Second, I don't think it's possible to create a working app for an MMO.
Well, i know this isn't what you are talking about but if you want an app that links you directly to the s.o. website you can do that. first you open up safari; go to s.o. homepage; there is a + right on the bottom in the middle; tap it; and than press add to home screen. its a quick and easy way to access s.o. website on your iphone/itouch.

They have a working Online FPS game for the Ipod/Iphone, so its entirely possible - just not while Stick Online is made with GM.
There are really only a few buttons though, but yes, it would be clunky or cluttered.

I can't think of a thing you don't have.
@Cactus, it is now possible to program iPhone apps on windows, they have been developing a windows sdk. One draw back though, I think you have to pay for it according to my mate who was thinking of learning objective C.

Is that so? I haven't looked into iPhone app development since I learned it was only doable on Macs. None the less though, I still think SO would have to be rewritten in C++ or another Windows/Cross-platform language before a conversion to an iPhone app would even be possible.
I think a mmo on a super portable device is just a bad idea. I mean nothing in the world would get would ever get done.

Other MMOs, perhaps. On the contrary, I'd say SO would be perfect for a handheld, as there is nothing that needs to BE done. You just play it to dick around. Whipping it out (excuse the mental image) to play in the free 10 minutes before you go on to the next thing is practically the hallmark of handhelds, and SO would fit perfectly into that.
On the Iphone, though? I don't know about that. Sure, you have internet access at all times, but touch screen controls....eh.

In all likeliness this probably will never happen. But I suppose we can dream.

Haha yeah right. I've got nothing against apple really, but I don't think I'd ever consider working for them. Steve Jobs strikes me as a huge douchebag anyways (even if he is good at what he does/really smart).
hey guys. I played Stick in 2009. I think the most of you know me with another name. But i don't wanna say this name cause all of you will hate me when i tell =)
I have a mac 2. And i have the programm "iphone_sdk_3.1.3". This is the latest version of the app create programm. I start to "programming" an app with my 3 best friends since 2 years. now it is in app store :) (the name of it is "flight control"). I know the programm and know how to create an app. If you are interested to test it.. give me the animations and 4-5 months. I will start to create it and when you are lucky it is in some mounths in the app store. I don't know if it works but i can test. I know this awesome programm. =)
~Shadow~
I think we should just stick with pc. but it would be pretty cool to see it on a portable device.
Off topic:
Shadow i know exactly who you are
Well as some of you may or may not know, there are a bunch of different groups of people who work on creating programs to convert game maker games into cross-compatible programs. One such group has already created a game maker -> psp converter. http://gamemakerblog.com/2010/03/10/first-video-of-game-maker-for-psp/ (http://gamemakerblog.com/2010/03/10/first-video-of-game-maker-for-psp/). That's not a separate group... That's the actual YoYo games (the ones who made Game Maker) team working on developing that PSP converter. Its up on their glog.
Meh, I made a typo. There are 3rd party groups that are working on things like this though.

Uhh, it's not a "group of people" making the PSP version of Game Maker. It's an official thing that yoyogames is doing for future development of GM. http://glog.yoyogames.com/
But yeah, either way. While I both have and enjoy my iPhone, if I "were" to develop an app for a phone, it would most likely be the Android. They are growing greatly in popularity, and are much better from a developers standpoint. Everything is much more open to developers, uses what in my opinion is a much better IDE and language than friggin "Objective C" and the mac only iPhone SDK, and you can distribute what you make much more freely (where as with the iPhone everything must go through and be screened by apple).
i wouldn't care to much if there was a new app like this because i don't even have a cell phone yet :(

operating systems.

Your point?
@Seifer
Its a Game Maker game ported to the iPad. Stick online is made with Game Maker. The iPad runs almost the exact same OS that is on the Iphone. I think thats his point.
@XcoceX or Anyone
I was talking to Meiun about him porting Stick online to the Mac when Game Maker for the Mac comes out of beta. And to his replay; He said that his addons would not work that he uses to make his game.
(Me saying this) Now there may be equivalents to those addons but he does not want to remake those parts in his game if he is not going to get that many players from that platform.
Or in other word too much work for too little payers.
@video
I like how that game is like Game Maker's Doom when it comes to porting. : D
Ahh. See now he should have mentioned as much. How should I have known?
But I agree porting to the mac is not worth the effort. Mac users need to suffer, not be spoiled.

I find this insulting to us Mac users. Why does everyone look down on the Mac? It has no viruses, no blue screen of death, it's organized, and it runs apps better.

contrary to popular belief the window user's high horse is actually only about 3 inches in height.
lol'd @ Mac having no viruses.
I recall them having a contest where a bunch of geeks tryed to hack into, create virus's for, and other security issues into all three operating systems. Mac lost every time. Runs apps better? Your joking right? You mean the few apps that it actually has, sure. I never get BSOD, but then again, I look after my computer.

i like the idea but it will never happen not with v2 any ways plus i dont think meiun has the time to make it for iphone/ipod touch or the mac and programs to do so
I know this topic is old, but this is taken directly from the Game Maker news.
QuoteGame Maker Games on Mobile Devices
Friday October 1, 2010
Recently YoYo Games has shown that games created with Game Maker can easily be made to run on different devices. Check out the videos that show games running on a PSP, on an iPad and on an iPod Touch. Soon we will release information on how you can publish your games on such platforms as well.
you have to look at getting it in the app store all so and ther server all the extra work that would have to be put in to it .It might happen for v3 but the donors sever it willl never happen srry

Actually it currently could never happen due to the fact Stick Online uses 39.dll. The iPod/iPhone/iPad does not have winsock. The only way this could even remotely happen is if someone created an exact replicated DLL using the iPod/iPhone/iPad's internet functions. Then Meiun would also have to want to put in the extra work. But even before any of this, the Game Maker -> iPod/iPhone/iPad port would also have to be updated to support DLL's because it currently does not.
