My father has been getting really interested into this HAM stuff. He started to take classes. I think Its a little useless because of the internet.
Further on he did get a book that i red some and it talked about how this is used for easy communications in disasters. It also said how people are connection this to computers to send data over really far distances. I guess those are good points to use one.
Why i made this topic is to ask if any one here knows any one who used a HAM radio or do does use one or if any one cares.
Things like this are so essential to us, and yet we take them for granted.
Something as simple as a radio could mean the difference between life or death for an entire nation of people if the circumstances provide a worst case scenario.
Well when i think of a HAM radio set i think of a radio but made of ham :P no offense.

What, are you worried about hurting the radio's feelings? lol
Perhaps a short description of whatever the HAM Radio is would be in order.

Taken from wikipedia:
Amateur radio, often called ham radio, is both a hobby and a service in which participants, called "hams," use various types of radio communications equipment to communicate with other radio amateurs for public services, recreation and self-training.
Amateur radio operators enjoy personal (and often worldwide) wireless communications with each other and are able to support their communities with emergency and disaster communications if necessary, while increasing their personal knowledge of electronics and radio theory. An estimated six million people throughout the world are regularly involved with amateur radio.
The term "amateur" reflects the principle that amateur radio and its skilled operators are committed to helping communities without financial compensation; whereas commercial radio operates for profit.
