Yeah, I think this is more fitted for the Media section since this is a fan-game.

Anyway, @Art: Tower Defense games have always been popular. Starcraft and Warcraft III were the birthplace for them.

Why is it such a large file?

Cause it was used with gm7.
And I made the 8bit graphics if anyone was wondering. (I am sure you weren't though)

Wow, this game is awesome. But one thing, the rock beast is almost impossible to kill because I run out of money. And I can't save my money because I need to use my units to take out the previous wave. >:(

Yeah I lost at the RB as well.
I think if you kill as many blobs as you can without using units, perhaps at the expense of some of your health, you can kill the RB.

Post by: 11clock on April 14, 2010, 09:57:15 PM
Do you have no money when you get to the RB, or do you have plenty of money but you don't have enough to make enough units to kill it?

It's an ok game but i got stupid and spent all money on ninja units and ended up losing somehow because didn't get enough money back :(

@Cactuscat222: Runs fine for me.

@Everyone: If you enter the Rock Beast Stage with at least 200 gold, you can defeat it. Try to use snowballs often to save gold.
Title: Re: Stick Control
Post by: Seifer on April 14, 2010, 11:22:25 PM
Surviving the Bandit Assassin is impossible.

The round before, with both rock beast and BBB eats all of your resources, there is too much to quickly, and you can't use snowballs effectivly. Because of this we have to dispatch alot of units to deal with the small group of two RB's and a BBE. Thus we go into the first round with a BA with less than 100 gold. I play as conservativly as can be, but it doesen't seem possible.

Curious, does speed play a part in attack speed? As in, ninja would be doing the most damage because of high speed + high attack?

I don't remember putting Rock Beasts into Stage 9. You talking about the 4 Rock Demons that spawn before the Big Blob? Also, I'll go ahead and add some bunnies to the start of Stage 10 (Bandit Assassin) to solve the low resources problem.

EDIT: Also forgot to add that the Big Blob at the end of Round 9 gives you 50 gold when you kill it.

There is a BBB in Stage 3 and also one at the end of Stage 9. And how did you lose in Stage 2? You actually have to TRY to lose in order to lose in Stage 2.

Pretty fun. One thing I think would help is if you hold the mouse button down it should fire a snowball automatically. As soon as the one on the screen is destroyed, it should shoot out another if the mouse is held.

I beat it first time too. The snowballs need to be sped up or a new weapon for you yourself would be nice. Near the end you start to rely too much on your units. Some projectile upgrades would REALLY make the game a lot better. Maybe throwable hatchets or candy canes.

Also, I want to see some hammerwielders in there too, with actual knockback. That can really help out when you have a packed up gang of rock demons a few pixels away from tearing up your house and about 100 gold to spare.
Title: Re: Stick Control

Unit suggestions : Dragoons, hammers.
Projectiles:c Arrows, Blobs, and exploding bunnys.
Title: Re: Stick Control
Post by: crozier on April 17, 2010, 10:45:00 AM
@snakeman- I dont know about candy canes. There isn't really a sprite pallet that contains red and white, blue and white, or green and white. The closest thing is the house brown color and white.
-Throwable hatchets sounds nice. Though there will indeed be a better snowball soon.

@xgamer-  Arrows- not quite SO related, idk what clock thinks though.
Blobs- *spoiler* an other unit can summon them much later.               Exploding bunnies- Clock was sad at just the bunny death (one of my favorite deaths bwahaha) and if this was a regular thing I am sure not just clock but some other people wouldn't be a big fan of this. Funny example though.
Dragoon- This would have to be a shop bought unit if it was to be added. Hammer is a good idea though.

Your really need to expand on the projectile aspect of the game. As of right now the snowballs are only really practical the first 2 levels...than it just becomes a game of conserving money for units.

I was thinking about adding a hammerman. And yes there will be a rock and a double throw upgrade in the shop later on. The main part of the game is using your gold and units wisely, so don't expect too much on projectiles.

Might I suggest a sandbox mode? Where you can summon as many monsters and units as you like. That sounds like fun. (:

Maybe some different terrains. Or maybe a bigger game screen, because it's a little small lol.

Can't make the screen any larger. I am entering the game into a NES competition and the maximum dimentions are 256x224. You can press F4 to activate full-screen, though.

And a sandbox mode I am considering for the final release.

It'd be cooler if when you kill a monster, the gold falls onto the ground. Then the units would pick it up when they walk by it.

And I think it would get a little crouded. But its for clock to decide, he is the programmer.

Alright guys here are the new stats for the units and monsters for the next version. The number on the left is the old stat and the number on the right is the new stat.

Name: Beginner
Health: 60-50
Attack: 10-10
Speed: 3-3
Cost: 5-5

Name: Fighter
Health: 60-60
Attack: 15-20
Speed: 3-3
Cost: 10-10
*range shortened*

Name: Ninja
Health: 70-90
Attack: 20-25
Speed: 5-5
Cost: 20-20

Name: Runner
Health: 60-50
Attack: 10-10
Speed: 6-6
Cost: 10-5

Name: Rock Demon
Health: 200-200
Attack: 15-15
Speed: 1-1
*range shortened*

Name: Rock Beast
Health-1600-1600
Attack: 10-10
Speed: 1-1
*projectile modified*

Name: Bandit
Health: 90-120
Attack: 15-15
Speed: 3-3

Here are a couple facts as well.

-Units have less health, but more attack power than monsters.
-Big Blob and Bandit Assassin will make appearances in later normal stages.
-There are 4 different types of special units earned later in the game: Priest (short-ranged projectile thrower), Wizard (long-ranged projectile thrower), Animal Tamer (stationary, summons tamed monsters), and Hammerman (knocks back monsters).

*BUMP*

I just had a cool thought. In the future it would be cool to have like 5 dragoons fighting off a sand golem. With tons of gold and units. Just thought this would spring some ideas. :p

Yes there will be a Sand Golem, but it only appears during the final battle against Commander Blob, which is on stage 30.

Here is the list of units you unlock throughout the game and when you unlock them:

-Beginner (stage 2)

-Fighter (stage 3)

-Ninja (stage 6)

-Knight (stage 11)

-Wizard (stage 13)

-Dark Knight (stage 20)

-Guardian (stage 25)

-Runner (store after stage 2)

-Priest (store after stage 11)

-Animal Tamer (store after stage 15)

-Hammerman (store after stage 15)

Will make that option eventually. For now, just lower your computer volume, or unplug the speakers.

That's not the point. I want to listen to music on my computer, not the ingame music.

Nice update! It was hard but I managed to get to the end. Looking forward to more!! But one thing, how do you open a save after you exited out of the game?

Lose on purpose in the first level. I'll fix that in a later update.

BETA 3.1 released! I updated the music track with much nicer, less repetitive songs (credit to Nijg from Game Maker Community for the awesome new music!). Also, I lowered the health of both projectile units.

Is the huge mofo ghost the last boss? I don't see a continue option anymore Dx. I think you might have made it a bit too easy, I don't play these games, ever, and I ended with 500 gold. Knights kick ass!

Right now the Large Ghost is the last boss, but the game isn't finished yet. There are only 15 stages and I plan on having 25 by the final release. Stage 25 will have the real final boss: Sand Golem and Commander Blob.

The final release it's on it's way! :D

I am working on the final boss (Sand Golem and Commander Blob) and it's turning out great! Expect a LOT in the next update, including 10 new stages (including the epic final boss stage), 3 new units (2 being buy-able from the store), and 5 new monsters!

I'd like to proudly bump this topic with some good news.

Stick Control Version 1.0 has been released! Please try it out and let me know of any bugs.

Here is one thing I'd like you to test. When you open up the game and get to the menu go into Sandbox mode first. Play around with it, then press Esc to go back to the menu. Then start a new game. You should have 0 gold on the first stage. If not, please let me know so I can fix it. There shouldn't be a problem though.

Sorry for the long delay. I did what you said and I started with 0 Gold just like you said! Right now I am still trying to get passed the ghosts. :P

Yes the ghosts can be a pain, but if you have upgraded your snowballs to rocks they should be easy to take down.

Just beat the game. It was very good! Since you used all of the monsters, maybe you should make a hard version with a different monster combination, new climates, and maybe even more units! Great game 11clock! 5/5!
