I am currently taking German because when i took Spanish i had a mean teacher that would constantly scream to get out attention and swore o.o and we'd also watch Chronicles of Narnia in Spanish without English subtitles :(. But now that i realize i get a new teacher and it's second most used language i have second thoughts of taking German because you need 2 years of foreign language.
I took Spanish for 3 years(although only 2 years were required) and I thought it was fairly easy...but it mainly depended on the teacher...
But I've heard a lot of people like German...
German is fairly easy if you already command mastery of the English language. You'll find several words that you either already know or can easily guess. Off the top of my head I can think of:
Ja
Nein
Helf
komm
mit
und
gehen(maybe)
gut
I'm currently in German III, even though I'm only in 9th grade and I only need 2 foreign language credits.
It all depends on how interested you are in foreign languages. Spanish is by far the easier language compared to German, so if you're looking for an easy two credits I'd say stick with your Spanish class. Having taken four years of German and Spanish, along with two years of French and American Sign Language and one year of Japanese at my highschool, I'd have to say Spanish was by far the most boring language. However, if you are interested in learning a language, German is hands-down one of the best languages in the world, right next to Russian. Sure, there's a little more memorization involved, but in the end it's much more gratifying (and fun!).
I'd suggest German, the grammar might be harder but in the end it's worth it. Swearing sounds so much harsher than in any other language. lol

As far as practicality, I've always thought Spanish was more practical, as you are going to encounter more Spanish in the United States (or rather, entire North America), then you will German. From my understanding (which could be wrong), English is a requirement for German students today, so a majority of them can at least understand for the most part what English speaking folk are saying, where as with Mexico, it is blatantly obvious that English is not a required second language.
I'm going to have to side with Scotty here. For practical reasons, spanish would be a much better choice.
Spanish is way more widely used language, and also, yes, easier to learn, but at the same time German sounds way more badass, and, like foG said, sounds way more harsher when swearing, haha.
I, myself, am in my 3rd year of Spanish.

Depends on where you live. German is being used way more than spanish, here, in europe. Most students in european countries have to learn german as their 3rd language (english as their 2nd).
