Title: Day and Night
Post by: Forum on May 09, 2010, 05:46:37 PM
A moon and sun in SO to tell if its night or morning ect.

Added: It would give the game a twist and maybe monsters would be different colors/ or switched into different things and different items/npcs. I didn't think about timezones much but it might be able to be fixed in..

What difference does it make?

Tell you what.  It's always day time.  Problem solved.

It should always be twilight, I say!

Well THAT'S a completely different suggestion all together.

If I remember correctly, there were plans to have SOv2 actually have a day and night system when it was in production.  The idea was scrapped (at least with a 1:1 time scale) because then there'd be certain people who would always have it night when they're playing (despite being the day for them) due to, well, being on the opposite side of the world.

I don't remember the reason why it didn't use a reduced time scale, though.

i can tell you don't pay much attention to anything, and when you think of something for the first time, you just post it... quit it. this has been suggested i think at least 5 times. read the list of what has been suggested. and for the idea, we don't need it. besides, you didn't even post which version for. you didn't even think it out.

I wouldn't be completely averse to something like this. It would add a little more depth to the game.

If anything, at least some areas that are always night (for example, a haunted house or dark forest) or always day (a desert, meadow) should be made into the game. It'd help give the background some variety.

Perhaps for 1 hour its night, then 1 hour its day.
Any better? Just have it on a plan like that.

Or just simply use a wider time scale... Perhaps the day and night switch every 6 hours... So it's 12 hours a day in total...

I can imagine a day/night system adding to the immersion of the game, however I'd rather not have the monsters change. I can maybe see some unique monsters only appearing during the night and/or in special areas, but I'd be very aggravated if I wanted to hop on and farm a monster type, and it was suddenly replaced for the next few hours by something I don't want.

Ooooooh yeah.  That's what the argument was.

I think the monsters shouldn't necessarily change, but there should be more of certain kinds (increased/decreased spawn rate) depending on day/night. Or, perhaps certain monsters are stronger/weaker depending on the time of day. That way you can still farm anything you want, but depending on the time of day it might be harder or easier and/or there are more/less of them.

Well i would like it if there was moon cycle and the newpaper man turned into a warwolf.

I'd like that idea. Say for example, Skeletons (Or Ghosts, Vampires, Ghouls, etc.) at a Graveyard. During the day, the spawns would be mediocre, but during the night there would be massive swarms trying to suck suck your brains through your testicles. Or Blobs, during the night they may be sleeping, but during the day they'd be out and about trying to om nom nom your toes off.

I've got another idea when it comes to spawn rates, wee bit off topic. I was thinking there would be a cave, dungeon, etc, for each area, that has the same monsters. Outside, the spawn rates would be normal, plenty of accessible areas to sit, a friendly area to any level. Inside, areas to sit would be scarce, and the spawn rate would be increased considerably. This is the kind of place you'd want a team of people to be with you, in order to combat the massive amount of enemies, but you'd be gaining exp faster than your casual play, and with the increased spawn and rate you're killing things, the big bad-asses would arrive more often.

Wadya think?

I agree with this idea. It would be a great area for higher level people to go and group up to kill swarms of monsters.
