ha that sounds like microsoft.

ARTgames

kinda smart. don't know if it will last.

DarkTrinity

Lol. How classy.
I've never liked using bing though....

Mr Pwnage

I'll have you all know that I have never used Bing for any single search. The one time I was accidentally directed there I used the google toolbar in the top right of firefox. I hate copycats.

I think I'm going to try bing out for a week or so. See how they are.

The only thing I've found that I like better about Bing is it's Maps' aerial photos - you can actually recognize peoples' cars on many of them!

I think I'm going to give up my soul for a week or so. See how it feels.

ARTgames

Google > Microsoft > everything else
That's how I've always seen it. Except for browsers, in which firefox beats microsoft's internet explorer. No surprise microsoft will try to learn from the best search engine around.

... I knew it! lol

Yeah I always noticed those search results that were not even correct. That's why I stpoped using it. It seemed suspicious.

The thing is, as much as I have a distaste for Microsoft, I have to applaud them for this.  This is brilliant.  Evil? Sure, but effing brilliant.  This is clever beyond most things I've seen on the Internet.  People open themselves up for supporting Bing by leaving the "Submit anonymous data to improve search results" box checked with the Bing toolbar, thinking they are doing them a favor, and they are, in ways they'll never understand.  Sure, they are ripping off technology, and not pioneering anything with their search engine (they'll never have the auto-correct capabilities Google totes as being so advanced, for example), but this is something so simple, so obvious, I can't help but feel somewhat impressed that they would resort to such a low-blow to try and supersede the competition... Only to fail since they can't supersede if they only attempt to match.

I'd like to point out that they aren't necessarily copying Google. They are really just aggregating search data by Bing bar and IE users. If you read a small portion of the article and/or the follow up response article by Bing which is linked you would see it's not really a cut and dry situation. Like Scott says, it's pretty brilliant actually. Just not the same brilliance that Google has. Rather than creating their own allgorithms to determine correct spellings, they are aggregating click stream data to determine where people are typically navigating to after a certain search is typed in. Also, keep in mind, this is not the only method they use to determine page ranking.
