Played this game for like, 10 hours straight this weekend. Still dont own it yet though, was staying over my cousins.
Lag problems? None on the 360 :P
Zombie mode? Fun as ever
Single Plyaer? Kinda boring at times, but all around great
Combat Training? Ok seriously, why is this in the Online section? Shouldnt it be available in local? wtf?
Gun Game? Epic fun, won 2 of em so far, more often then not I finish in the money.
Sticks and Stones? Frag fest away!
Sharp Shooter? Awesome fun for more balanced matches.
One in the Chamber? Ok i seriously DO NOT like this mode, but i've only played it twice.
Multiplayer? Voting for maps! Yeah you can only vote for Random, the previous map or the "net" map, but this gets ridiculous at times. I played Summit 15 times in a row.
Some of the guns are still a bit OP, but not too many, and at least if someone shoots you theres still a chace to get away, its not just one shot kills with basically every gun like in MW2.
Dead Ops Arcade? Haha, got to be one of the greatest bits in the game.

Just out of curiosty, where do you find the cool game modes like sticks and stones?
(I've only played one muliplayer game and didn't see them on the lists)

To anyone complaining about how Trey made a bad CoD game, let me just remind you about MW2 developed by Infinity Ward who milked the game to oblivion, put map packs up for 15 bucks when they should have been 5 AT MOST, in-put absolutely retarded killstreaks and how they work (insta-win game nukes that can be got by camping, then getting a 11 kill streak to get a AC-130 and rack up the rest of the kills with ease and call in a nuke), completely ignored calls for dedicated servers, screwed mod support, and refused to add the fan favorite zombie mode.
You do realize Activision had the final say when it came to map pack price as well as dedicated servers, right? Not only that, but zombie mode is treyarch's thing. Infinityward isn't the type of company that copies other people's accomplishments, and I respect that more than if they stole Treyarch's pride and joy, even if people did want it in MW2.

Most of the gripes for MW2 are silly from what I've seen. It's a bunch of little nitpicking. What I do see though is a much higher bar of quality than what treyarch has to offer. I was playing the Black Ops campaign, and I instantly realized that it wasn't nearly as polished or fun as Cod4 or even MW2. Sure, I could tell they tried their best, but it honestly felt like another boring rehash of shooters in the past, albeit with bigger set pieces.

QuoteAnd for anyone complaining about the hardware bugs, all I gotta say is be freakin' patient. Every game EEVVERRRYY game that gets released now-a-days is bound to have a serious faulty, or game breaking bug. Treyarch can't help it, and they're trying their best to get everything running smoothly, but this shit doesn't happen over night, or even over weeks. As I said before they don't have the expertise that IW has, but they make up for that by listening to fans and not giving into greed. I'm not saying that they are doing this all in their heart- I mean hell every company is after money first and foremost. But all these additions make up for the problems. IW was alright back in CoD4, but now they are just greedy !@#$s.
Blaming Infinityward for Activisions greed is stupid. Besides, even if Infinityward did set the prices, it would be a decision made by 1 or 2 people who have nothing to do with the hard work that goes into the game. Blaming the amazing coders, sound designers, and 3d modelers for being greedy is silly.

if this game was made by infinity ward, it would have been 10x better, kinda disappointing... and the lag is pretty unbearable atm, which is why I am staying away from it for a while... (on ps3 btw)

EDIT: They are working on patches for all platforms. Link: http://www.el33tonline.com/past/2010/11/11/cod_black_ops_patch_is/
Infinity Ward does not know how to balance a game. They also don't know how to patch a game. If Black Ops was made by IW, we would have people camping in obscure locations, with infinite insanelypowerful grenade launchers, infinite claymores, and getting easy killstreaks that get them another 10-15 kills. I don't think I'll ever buy an IW game again.
How come I don't see any of that in MW2? From what I've heard so far, camping is much easier in Black Ops.
I don't believe that you don't see this. Camping isn't my concern, balance is. IW made assault rifles far too powerful, completely imbalanced killstreaks (9killstreak pavelow gets average of 5-10 kills, 9killstreak stealth bomber gets maybe 2?), insanely overpowered grenade launchers (that can be replenished at any time using onemanarmy), death streaks that reward players for playing poorly, etc etc etc.
I believe everything you said, I just don't think it ruins the game. I don't play cheaply (apart from the fact that I use an assault rifle with stopping power), and I generally kick major amounts of butt, so all the little stupid things everyone else does, doesn't really matter. The only thing that really gets to me once in a while is the n00b tubes, but that's really not that big of an issue. I also think death streaks are a good idea.

No matter what Infinity Ward does, people are going to complain about it. If they make the assault rifles weaker, people will say they're gimped. If they get rid of death streaks, people would freak out. I guess I just accept the fact that a game isn't going to be tuned exactly how I want it, and try to enjoy it anyway.
MW2 appeals to the average 10yearold gamer. It takes virtually no skill (guns have no recoil and kill almost instantly, painkiller ensures you winning a gunfight if you are playing poorly, commando allows you to forsake aim altogether and just teleport-knife for kills, killstreaks give you other killstreaks that give you tons of free kills, grenade launchers are infinite and take no aiming skill, etc, etc, etc.

The 10yearold feels proud of themselves when they get a high score as a result of imbalances and luck.

Black Ops appeals to the hardcore gamers. To get kills, you pretty much need to outskill the other player every time. It requires you to take advantage of your gun's strengths (assault rifles aren't the all-purpose insta-killers that they were in MW2, they're only really effective at their respective ranges), maneuver the map to your advantage, effectively use cover, etc. Also care packages have been nerfed to the point that you hardly ever get anything larger than a 3killstreak reward from them.

The hardcore gamer can work to improve their skill at the game and gradually do better.

You say MW2s flaws aren't gamebreaking, but try going up against a team of onemanarmy/scavenger noobtubers. You can't move without randomly dying from someone sitting on top of a building launchers them off into the sky, 5 kills in they have predator missiles that give them harriers that give them chopper gunners, which go on to spawnkill you repeatedly. You can't play the damn game. Not to mention boosters, which were in more than half the damn ffa matches and gave you an autoloss. What about all the times you join games where the enemy team has 2 harriers, an ac130, and a chopper gunner out and you don't even have enough time to shoot something down before it can kill you 20 times? The game was completely broken and IW made no attempts to fix it.

stick d00d

You are wrong about black ops in some ways. There is more spawn-killing, camping, the remote-control cars are nearly impossible to destroy or avoid, chopper gunners are 10x more annoying as they hit thru just about anything and everything, knife swings a lot faster and farther then it used to(almost comparable to commando, but not quite as far).

I will say though that I have gotten used to the downgrade in weapon power, as well as stopping power being taken from the game. It does indeed take a lot more shots to kill, which, annoying at times, makes it a lot more difficult for the average player. The lag obviously which is being worked on is my last complaint. It is a good game, just takes time to get used to.

But this isn't completely true, With the hardline pro perk you can 're-roll' care packages and you'll get something better nearly every time, In my experience with it i changed SAM Sites for Valkyries and Ammo drops to gunships and dogs. You nearly always get something above 5killstreak witch is an alright drop.

Food

For xbox live they patched it so that you can't revote for the same map 1 billion times in a row.

Is it just me, or is there no way to view your overall kills and deaths / KDR, just the statistics for the specific gamemodes? :(

Josh

Well in TDM pressing select(back) will open up your kills, death and ratio.  Otherwise go to your playercard, combat record to see your Win-Loss Ratio and press RB R1 i think and youll see your overall ratio.

Bumpy.
So two years after breaking it, we finally bought a new Ps3, One of those smaller sexy 320GB ones, hell of a lot more user-friendly than that brick I had before. My sister also bought Black Ops with it, and we've been having a ton of fun inviting my other brothers and sisters & friends for four way split screen local, or two online. I played through the entire campaign on Veteran, which isn't too hard if you don't mind dying twenty billion times in order to do some parts. Their definition of "difficulty" is not only increasing damage done to you, but making everyone auto-aim at you the instant you poke your head around a corner.

The campaign story was fairly interesting story-wise, I didn't expect the ending. The gameplay was pretty well done, had you jump hoops through a ton of different mini-games of sorts, like controlling boats, helicopters, machine guns, motorcycles etc. Most of which were basically the same, blow up everything in sight terminator-style. Speaking of terminator style, holy christ, the main character was !@#$ing Chuck Norris and Arnold Schwarzenegger wrapped up in one. One second he's breaking out of prison, mowing down the entire facility with a Gatling gun, the next he's pumping fools with a sawed-off shotgun while riding a motorcycle, and pretty soon he's blowing up entire villages with a helicopter. What the !@#$? The pure amount of carnage was just rediculous, I was not immersed, there's a level between "fun" and "realistic" which they smeared all over the place. And you gotta love the COD series's health system, makes me laugh every time I get shot. "Oh you just got smacked in the face by an RPG? Walk it off pussy, get over it!" Just wait a few seconds and Badaboom, you're good as new. I don't get it, is this demi-god sort of health system supposed to even Try immersing you?

But although I was not immersed, I did have fun, and completed the campaign playing on-off over two days. Only times I ever got bored was when I died repeatedly, but I was asking for that by choosing Veteran :x. About the graphics, I wasn't blown away, but I rarely stood there and went "meh!". I noticed the walking animations in the pentagon were very poor, and some trees in the snow levels weren't very textured, but I didn't much care after noticing. About lag.. maybe they've patched it sense, but I've had zero lag whatsoever, single player or online.

As to online, first off, the last COD I played was CoD4 Modern Warfare. I didn't play either of the in-between games by either company, so I've nothing to say in comparison to them. But in comparison to COD4, it's got much of the same general COD feel to it. Playing first person shooters on consoles has never really been my thing, but I can relate to people who enjoy it, it's kind nice to play a game where everyone is on the same playing field. I've always had a less-than-average computer for its time, and playing a game exactly how the settings are meant to be is kinda neat.

Last thing, the zombie modes. As I said I never played the previous treyarch game, so I didn't play the last mode, but this one is pretty damn fun! And funny! Both maps are endlessly entertaining, especially playing as Roosevelt, that's !@#$ing hilarious. The arcade mode is truly an arcade game, very well done and pretty damn addicting. It's too bad you can't have four players on the normal zombie mode, 8(! I've yet to try arcade with four people as I just unlocked it, I'm sure that'd be funny.

Anyways, long post is long, overall I like the game. I don't have much to say bad against it, other than just my general disagreement with the route COD games have gone with very unrealistic styles, which leaves little to immerse myself in. One last thing, as I was skimming through the thread, I read someone comparing COD to Battlefield. Errmm, No. The two games are entirely unrelated, and have completely different styles, and as such shouldn't be compared to each other. Battlefield has its vehicles and huge maps, COD has its small maps and fast-paced combat. I personally wouldn't stand them up next to eachother, it's just personal preference. (I prefer the battlefield series, personally. Go Vehicles!)
