How do you stop lag? (ping)

In recent days, playing Stick Online and such, I started getting some crazy ping lag, with minimal windows opened. I first didn't really care, but now it is becoming a nuisance, so I want to end it.

Recently, I have tried a few things to stop lag, but, the lag always averages around 1232 ms.
The highest ping I have ever gotten was 59k ms, and lowest was possibly a 170ms (normal ping).
I have- Cleared my Cache, Deleted Cookies, Reset internet.. and such, but nothing has made it better.

Also, this lag started a week before the ending of the Christmas event.

Any way I can stop this?

Read what I said. I received this lag much before the update (week before) so I doubt that any of it was caused by that. I am meaning not in spikes, but for the whole game play, I receive around 1000 ping.

@EpicPhail yes, but it has always been shared. And I am sure you know that in past times that I have not received this lag.

I'm sure its related. I don't play the game much so i don't know when these lag spikes started happing. All i know is people are reporting them now.

I'm not an expert on this stuff, but perhaps someone who shares your connection is downloading something? (Althought I'm sure no download lasts more than two weeks)

I just solved it. All I had to do is restart my router...

*lock*

Actually.. That change, wasn't permanent. Lasted 20 mins or so, then went back to the regular ol' 1k ping.

Any other thoughts?

ARTgames

Im sure you just having what evey one else is having.

Ceroblitz

Nope.

I have 1k ping, while everyone else has 170 ping or less.

ARTgames

Do you have 1k all the time or spikes?

Ceroblitz

All the time. But now, its been better for some reason once I fixed a few things.
My ping is now below 200 (most of the time).
Having info on how to stop high ping that isn't to fairly obvious would still be resourceful.

ARTgames

Well these things are not easy all the time after you check the normal stuff. Could be a dieing router, your isp doing weird stuff, you network adaptor messing up, windoes is messed up, etc.

Do you have another online game to play to see if your having the same ping problem?

Ceroblitz

Well, since its fixed now, Its all good.

And Yea, it effected other online games.

For how long have you been playing?
