@Lingus (and Pat, probably)- The semi-feminine looking main character with spiky hair isn't related at all to whether the character is a pansy.  Seifer has already made this distinction.  Essentially, he's looking for games where the main character isn't acting like an immature child, and certainly not all JRPGs are like that.
Yea, I missed him saying that.

All I can say about Kingdom Hearts I is that the flight sequences get REALLY boring after awhile, and it's mandatory to use them in order to get to other worlds. Kingdom Hearts II's flight sequence is just plain awesome. You'll know what I'm talking about if you've seen them or will play the games.

You never go wrong with wario shake it :P
Dynasty warriors fighting games are pretty good.
Try the game I am working on in a few weeks lol.
Even though this isn't a rpg, try out the castle vania series. Dawn of sorrow is my favorite.
Try that if you haven't already.

I second the Kingdom Hearts series. Though, the Re: CoM is really different in play style but still fun (I mainly just liked it for it's story line). Oh, and don't forget 358/2 Days, but that is for the DS! :P

On that note, have you ever tried Earthbound, for the SNES? If you haven't, you really should, its quite awesome. And the characters aren't pansies.

Hell YES. Earthbound is awesome indeed. True, the main characters are kids, but they are in no way pansies. I also suggest MOTHER 1/Earthbound Zero and MOTHER 3 while you're at it.
AKA Paradox/EnragedDeity/Occurrence.

Yes, just because a character is a kid or young, or new or inexperienced does not make them a pansy. I can easily point to Squall, whom although is a New Seed, and pretty young really, he's extremely mature. Cloud falls in the same boat. And I will agree with you on Kingdom hearts, the main character is pretty rocking. I played the first, but not the second, so I'll certainly give that a go.
