Hey guys i wanted to get into spriting somewhat, only i have no idea what programs to use for designing them. Stuff like the artwork in Stick Online.

I beleive most of the sprites were made with Paint.net. (I am not positive.)
I think the more detailed sprites, like ciro's stuff, was used with more advanced programs.
I personally use gm7's built in paint program. Its simple to use and you can put stuff together on the rooms screen. But thats just me. And I am nowhere near an expert pixel artist.

venuse

i use graphics gale registered version.

Paint.NET isn't really optimal for pixel art. It's really supposed to be a Photoshop alternative, mainly for what "photo manipulation" is supposed to be.

MSPaint works perfectly. Graphics Gale is another popular choice.

I used MSPaint.  If you're just starting off, I recommend it, so there's not as much hand holding with fancy features.  Once you know what you're doing, I recommend Gale and it's features to make things quicker and easier.

Thanks for the suggestions guys! And one more thing, how can i go about making a small animation with them when im all finished? Like just to have a stick swinging a sword persay.

Oh musta got the two paints mixed up XD I don't use either.
And nice graphics in that other topic dude, for a first try.

You can find many freeware animation compilers on the web. Unfreez works well. Even if it's a little barebones, I use it for the simplicity.

As far as I know, all you have to do is save a bunch of .GIF files together and load them onto the animator, and save them into one .GIF file. In cases like these, you want to sprite the stick figure swinging the sword at different points. The more frames there are, the more smoothly it'll go. Save all of those as separate .GIF files and load them into the compiler, etc.

Alright i will try this soon! TYSM for that info bro.

I usually use paint a Game Maker, Ive actually found GM 8's spiriting tools quite helpfull when trying to make effects with the transparency tool, goodluck with your spiriting!  :D

You cant draw transparency in paint. In paint.net it does work, together with cool effects missing in the standard MS Paint. I seriously see no point why you should use MS Paint rather than paint.net, you do not even have layers, which makes things fuzzy and takes longer to get your stuff together. I didn't even need a tutorial for paint.net and it totally sped up the working time for everything.

I have a few differnt programs that ive been farting around with trying to make sprites. MS Paint, Gimp, GM7, Paint.net and Greenfish icon editor.

So far, GM7 has been where im spending most of my time because of how simple it is. Quality isnt very good though.
