By the way, to any System of a Down fans here, check out Serj Tankian, and Scars on Broadway. They have the same feel as SOAD, and strange lyrics with awesome vocals, obviously because they're both bands made from SOAD members. Serj Tankian with, well, Serj Tankian (No, really?), and Scars on Broadway with Daron Malakian and John Dolmayan.

Soilwork is coming out with a new album in 20 days, and Oh. My God.  I cannot be happier that Peter Wichers is back with them doing the song writing and guitar playing.  Hearing this song by them seriously put an ear-to-ear grin on my face.  Not anything I would ever expect to hear from them, yet I couldn't be happier!

i am finally going on a add music spree to my ipod. i have over 100 gbs left to fill on it. name any good metal and a song, if i like the song, i will probably download the whole discogrophy. i already downloaded all that remains, amon amarth, and soilworks.
edit:
here is a list of what i have downloaded:
all that remains: behind silence and solitude, the fall of ideals, overcome, this darkened heart
Amon amarth: Once sent from the Golden Hall, Sorrow throughout the nine worlds, Thor Arise (demo), twilight of the thunder god, versus the world (bonus included), with oden on our side. some of these are from when amon amarth was known as scum.
As i lay dying: Frail words collapse (i don't like their style too much)
Majesty: Shadows EP
Killswitch Engage: Random songs my friend gave me
Scar Symmetry: Pitch Black Progress, Symmetric in Design, Holographic Universe, Dark Matter Dimensions.

Can never go wrong with some "Pure !@#$ing Metal", ala Arch Enemy.  Albums I'd recommend are:
Doomsday Machine, highlight song would be "Nemesis"
Anthems of Rebellion, highlight song would be "Dead Eyes See No Future"
Wages of Sin, highlight song would be "Enemy Within" (OMGMAZING guitar work on this song, only bettered by their live performance of it!)
Tyrants of the Rising Sun, highlights would be the entire album (no kidding, drop dead, no pun intended, amazing album, I'm not exaggerating), as a sample: "Blood On Your Hands" (One of the top 3), "I Will Live Again", "Revolution Begins", "The Day You Died" (One of the top 3), and "Vultures" (One of the top 3, excellent guitar solo by Chris, very catchy!)
Tyrants of the Rising Sun, their most recent live album, contains all their great hits on it.  All above live performances are videos of songs on this album.  Absolutely amazing live performers, couldn't ask for anything more spectacular.

Not sure if Arch Enemy twiddles your pooter or not.  As I've demonstrated before, I could spend 3 hours typing up an essay of a post containing reasons why I find each band of mine unique and amazing in so many ways, so if you're interested in more, I'd be more than happy to continue, I just don't have the time right now at work to post all of it, I can do more later if you're interested.

Edit: I'm not one to condone piracy publicly, but I will admit I have done it in the past.  Why do I say this now?  This band is honestly one that has earned my respect and love, enough so, that I've actually taken it upon myself to go out and buy their albums because I find them that great!  Plus I wanted FLAC, and would rather not DL 6-8GB worth of music.  What can I say, I'm not only reforming, I'm also impatient!  ;D

EDIT #2: Being that I am a huge guitar fanatic, One of the reasons I love the band is because of the Amott brothers (guitarists) in the band.  Honestly, there isn't another band that I've found to have such talented brothers both playing guitars (although I am not opposed to some other recommendations, not even particularly picky regarding style).  They both had solo songs on Tyrants of the rising sun, here are some demonstrations of their sheer awesome!:
Chris's Solo,
Michael's Solo/Intermezzo Libert? (Mike seriously is in the top five for best use of legatos on the guitar)

i will check them out. i will probably download the whole discogrophy if i can. i am trying to fill my ipod. but it won't be till i am on lunch from work that i start downloading. got two movies going right now.

It's my theory (only amplified by her live performances) that if Angela were born 40 years earlier, her lats alone could lay Ali out for the count.  Another reason for such love for the band.  There's scream induced abortions (aka dinner), and then there's Angela!

EDIT: By the way, excellent selection thus far!  In case you need a bit more better produced As I Lay Dying, check out the singles off their album "An Ocean Between Us", the album you listed is probably one of their worst.

Epica has only one song that I'll listen to, and it's more of a guilty pleasure since it's sort of out of the realm of what I normally listen to.  They resemble the style of Nightwish more than anything.  It's a shame, because the band just doesn't have good song writing, yet the singer is A) Drop dead gorgeous (I do love me some talented red-heads) and B) has a (God Hawt) damn talented voice, their song writing just sucks.

i have nightwish as well, though i don't listen to it much. were you talking about nightwish with the hotty? or epica?

Epica, from what little I gather of them, is similar in the metal opera style that Nightwish perfected, only Epica can't seem to go anywhere with it.  The band essentially consists of your basic lineup, with an opera singer who is drop dead gorgeous and has an amazing voice, with the rest of the band being mediocre at best.  I really wish the singer would find a different gig, because I honestly want to enjoy her more, but I can't when she's in a band that can't write lyrics to save their careers.  Honestly, when Tarja left Nightwish, I think this girl would have been the best replacement possible, but there's all sorts of politics and such that would have made that an impossibility.  As far as the only song of theirs I can listen to, it's called "Never Enough" (I think the best vocals start at 4:04 all the way to the end, seriously, 4:30 never fails to send shivers from brow to toes every time).  The only real upside I would give them over Nightwish, is that, in my personal opinion, the guitarist supplementing with the aggressive growls does more for me than the awkward vocals of Nightwish's bassist.

Don't take my word for your own though, give 'em a shot, and who knows, I might be full of shit for opinions with 'em.  God knows I haven't really given them a good and thorough chance, just that I've only heard one of about a dozen that I actually liked.  You can feel free to call me a liar and formulate a different opinion of them, and in honesty, it might steer me in the right direction with 'em.  And for the naysayers who think her tone and pitch are all computer aided, eat shit!!!

EDIT: The reason I think Epica's vocalist, Simone, would do much better in a more talented band could be backed by her performances with Kamelot.  Kamelot is one of Nightwish's "competitors" for the title of best and most influential symphonic metal, and Simone is engaged / married to Kamelot's keyboardist (lucky bastard).  She's done several tracks with them, providing backing vocals as well as went on tour with them.  A fine example would be "The Haunting".  Sure, her talent may not shine as true when she's doing songs with Kamelot, but none the less, it'll get her better known and I'm sure if she was full time with them, she'd have a better career, and they'd have to accommodate the fact that she has an amazing voice.

Well I have to say that so far this year, it's been a rather interesting year for death metal (both American and abroad).  Out of all the bands that I looked forward to seeing a new album from, only two actually delivered something other than crap, or are about to release what I am quite certain will be crap (I'm sorry Sonic Syndicate, you're not looking good this time 'round).  So far, Soilwork's new album "The Panic Broadcast" reigns supreme by far, very much by far!  In fact, they've changed their style, and successfully created a masterpiece in doing it.  Much respect for Peter Wicher's writing and producing with the album.  It seriously gives me a hard-on to listen to this album:

Two Lives Worth Of Reckoning (Turn it to 480p, otherwise it's bloody awful to listen to)
The Thrill (Speed's vocals in this make me want to pay him to play "catcher" for just one night)
Let This River Flow (Speed's vocals in THIS track make me want to have a sex change so I can have 43 of his babies)

Another album that came out a while back earlier this year is Dark Tranquillity's new album: We Are The Void.  I'm also thoroughly impressed with this album, as it has a lot of unique sounds to it.  It honestly reminds me of their Haven album (which, it's my opinion that that album was their best, or at least my favorite).  Quite a few good tracks off that album.  The technical reasons behind why this album differs from the last couple, is that the last seemed rather... Straight forward with maybe one track that deviates in style per album.  They seemingly have begun to stray more towards the "Hit fast, hit hard, and throw in a keyboard for giggles" without really concentrating much on the melody of melodic death metal.  Granted, I'm all for it, I love it, I loved their previous work, this album just brings up a LOT more variety, which I think is spectacular!:

Shadow In Our Blood
I Am The Void
Iridium (Very VERY dark, yet extremely powerful and deep, I love it!)

In fact, this year has been so sucky for so many bands I had such high hopes for, that I'm having to go back to bands that I wished I never left.  Take As I Lay Dying for example.  Every freaking album they come out with gets better and better and better (seemingly incrementally).  Seriously, I think they are the last remaining thrash/death metal band from America I care to listen to anymore:

Parallels (Dear God, give me a chainsaw and 30 death-wishing emo kids, heads are gonna roll!)

I got bored here at work as I finish up my last hour before heading down to throw back some cold ones with my company, and youtube'd "Christian Alvestam".  Anyone who listens to death metal should recognize that name as being one of the most talented vocalists in the genre, most notably with Scar Symmetry (not their most recent album though) amongst many other bands, quite a few as guest vocals.  Well now he is providing guest vocals for a band that quite frankly gave my mid-region a stiffy to listen to:

Christian recording for Universum

The band Universum has one album out already, here's the single off that album, and I must same, I can no longer talk trash about Australia, finally something good came from it!:

UNIVERSUM - "LETO DESTINATUS"

EDIT: Oh, and of course, Rachael, their keyboardist has made it on my "Bag it & Tag it (aka Santa's)" list.  I swear, my zipper must be on every woman's bucket list!

Scotty

I've been going through a Christian Alvestam fit as of late, as he is going to be doing guest vocals on the next Universum album.  I know that he is a big proponent of guest acts with a lot of other bands, much like Speed from Soilwork, so one has to wonder what other acts he has done, and how bad-ass does his presence morph these songs.  I'll demonstrate.

His primary acts he's with:
Solution .45 - Gravitational Lensing
Miseration - World Lethality (for the desperate, the bad-ass'ery kicks in at 2:03)

A few other acts he's had guest appearances:
Deadlock - Dying Breed (His vocals are at 3:58, IMHO, his best guest performance to date, gives me the shivers to listen to)
Unmoored - Final State Part III (Posthumous Writings)
Demon Hunter - Just Breathe
Some crap DJ featuring Christian ?lvestam - Now And Forever

For those of you who don't like metal, but want to hear his clean vocals, first (if you're a guy), grab a tape measure, you'll want to measure the size of your erection after listening to this, females, take off your bras (sending pictures would be nice), the nipples might tear a hole in the bra:
The second half of this ridiculously long song: Solution .45 - Clandestinity Now

I personally don't know of a more talented vocalist in his genre of music.  The problem with vocalists in any derivative of death metal (especially melodic death metal), is that all too many times do they sound superficial.  Seriously, there's no emotion, they're just doing what their vocal coach teaches them to not blow out their voice.  Few do what is necessary to put emotion into it, which may in fact cause your voice to shit the bed (see All That Remains or Nightrage).  Even some of the popular ones just sound... fake, and not from the heart...  Examples are Johannes Prem, Richard Sjunnesson, Alexi Laiho (PHENOMENAL guitarist, not so much on the vocals), Alissa White-Gluz, Maria Brink, a lot of 'em...  Christian is just phenomenal in every way imaginable...

Come on December 15th!!!

Seriously, I haven't been this excited for an album release ever.  I'm not exaggerating, I normally find out about albums after they've been released, or right before they are, not allowing me to build up the enthusiasm, or care.  This on the other hand, I have been looking forward to since I first discovered them back in September (see previous post, since I'm the only one keeping this thread alive).
